On Saturday, I finally had a chance to get on the water with my new MX 2040. I was on Mille Lacs with 12-15 mph winds so it was just starting to whitecap. I have run tin boats my whole life up until now and I’m really questioning my decision to wait this long.
Last summer, I test drove Dean’s boat with Tony from Skeeter Boat Center last year and really was impressed but getting to spend a few hours breaking in my new boat just strengthened my initial impressions from that test ride.
After the first two hours of motor break in (the boring 2 hours) I was able to open it up. The Yamaha 250 SHO
is awesome! With a full tank it was running 57-58 mph/gps with wind and as I burned a little more fuel and got to about a half a tank of fuel with a full live well and loaded boat I was touching 60 mph/gps with the wind and 57-58 into wind.
All the other claims you read about… soft ride, turns like it’s on rails (reactive keel), drifting perfectly sideways to the wind, dry (I was actually trying to get wet and couldn’t), etc.
Bottom line if you’ve been thinking about it a long time get a test ride. I know this sounds like a commercial but it is unsolicited… I’m just that happy with the rig. Can’t wait to start fishing out of it. I also have a little more break in time so if you are around Mille Lac’s and you hear a 50+ year old man giggling….. It’s likely me!
Thanks again to the whole Skeeter Boat Center crew! This has probably been my best big ticket buying experience ever!
