I upgraded boats a little this spring and picked up a 2003 skeeter zx1790t with a f75 Yamaha on the back. Tried trolling the other day with water temps getting up but the slowest I can go with that motor is about 2.7 mph. Ideally I’d like to be able to get down to 1.8 mph. Any ideas on idling down the motor at all?For convenience id rather not have to worry about throwing a drift sock out underneath to slow it down. And ideas appreciated

Did you try trimming the motor up so it is almost out of the water? That has always worked for me.

I read where people suggested that. Tried trimming it up but maybe not as far as I should have

Wonder if you could get the VTS system installed aftermarket. My dad has a 1790T with a F75, and he gets about 1.7-1.8 low end trolling on flat calm lakes.

I have the same boat only a 2005 so it is EFI version with the VTS feature. I can troll at 1.6 no problem, but if I want to slow down even more I lower the Vantage and run it in reverse real slow. Not sure if you have a transom electric but you could try that.

It does have a vantage on the transom. I ran it in reverse for the day since i didn’t have many other options. Ideally I’d like to be able to just run the motor by itself and not have to worry about a sock or the electric but I might just have to if the motor can’t be adjusted

Do you have an RPM gauge? Whats your idle RPM? check the manual to see what is recommended. You might be able to have your dealer turn it down as long as you are in the recommended idle RPM you should be fine. If they turn it down too low you might have starting problems so its a fine line but worked well with my dads merc.

According to the tack it’s running a little over a thousand. I talked to a mechanic at my local dealership and he said if the tack is accurate I should be able to adjust it down to about 750 Rpms which should hopefully help.

That motor should idle just fine around 700 RPMs. If you can have a dealer do it, have them hook up the computer to it and adjust it based of the rpms on the computer. That should slow you down a fair amount to start with.
