Six sided hubs vs the double 4 side

I’m talking about something like the Otter Resort vs the Otter Monster Lodge. The other manufacturers make something similar. Anyone have any comments about the pros and cons of each? In my mind double 4 sided one might be better for camping out on the ice as you could set up your cots and living quarters on one side and fish the other side. But beyond that, for just fishing wise with a lot of people, does it really matter between the two? Either you fish more people around a circle or you spread them out over a rectangle.

I have one each, Eskimo in my case. Space wise, they’re about equal, but I think for cots the double hub is better space utilization. In the 6 side, you kind of take up half the space with the cot as you are going across the “angle” I guess. The double you can line them up along the sides without leaving any “dead space”.

I have the otter resort and we do hike in spots and camp in it. 2 cots a couple rattle reels and a cooker stove, still has room for walking. The double hubs are to skinny.

I have the eskimo 450 xd and the one thing I like versus the double hub (which I sold last season) is that with wind you don’t have to be so precise in which way you set things up. On windy days I get away typically with using two straps for two sides versus on the double hub if you don’t have the angle just right you end up needing more straps. That is really the only thing otherwise.

Depending on the structure your fishing sometimes it is advantageous to have the double hub style so all three people fishing can fish the same depth.

I think overall the differences are minimal but for the reasons your stating maybe the double hub is better if your cots fit better the way your describing.

I do like the full length door on the Eskimo but am not sure if that is offered by otter or not. The hubs are great though for winter camping for sure and you get maximum space with this style shelter.

This is otter resort with 1 cot. For adding another cot I just put it on the other side and run 2 holes in the middle and 1 hole on the end of each cot. Plenty of room with 2 Cots and 4 holes Inside the shack for staying overnight. I did look at the monster hub but decided to go with the resort as I go by myself a lot and figured the monster would be a little overkill for just me. So far very happy with the resort.

If you fish with lots of people bigger is better, but they weigh much more. Being 61 years age I bought a Eskimo XD 450 easier for me to set up,but still a bit heavy for a old man…..
