Sirius XM Radio

I upgraded to a newer Subaru several months ago and it came with a trial of Sirius XM Radio. I have to say I’ve been enjoining it! BUT my subscription is coming to an end next Wednesday and I’m fairly certain I’m not going to renew. I’m just not in my vehicle that much since I live relatively close to work. I have all my music downloaded onto a USB drive that I can plug into my car for listening to my favorites. And I’m just not a fan of how Sirius handles their marketing. During my 4-month trial I’ve gotten way too many emails, phone calls, and letters in the mail regarding either advertising or especially this last month, promotional offers to renew. It’s just too aggressive for my taste.

The channels I’ve enjoyed include Lithium, Alt Nation, Sirius XM Turbo, and Ozzy’s Boneyard. What I’ve been doing while I have an active subscription is making a note of songs I’ve been hearing and don’t have in my digital collection and I’ve started downloading them. I did about 16 today and have about that many more to go once I find my other Google Play gift card.

Looking at my list, I like some random stuff! smash
    Brick by Ben Folds Five
    War Pigs by Black Sabbath
Here & Now by Letters to Cleo
    Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger
You Get What You Give by New Radicals
Novocaine for the Soul by Eels
    Ave of Spades by Motorhead
Bound for the Floor by Local H
    Truth by Seether
    Voices by Disturbed
    Poem by Taproot
Down by the Water by P.J. Harvey
    Mother Mother by Tracey Bonham
Used to Love Her by Guns N’ Roses
    The Game by Disturbed

Never pay their regular price. If you renew call them and tell them you want the $4.99 per month. $60 per year is much more reasonable than the $240 regular price. I enjoy it in my vehicle, especially on long trips.

Agreed. If you tell them you want to cancel they will fight to keep you.

What they said! They literally will not let you cancel. ) I like the fact that I don’t have to find new stations when traveling, and sometimes I get in a rut with Spotify, so it’s nice to add in new stuff (and by new, I mean music from the 90s that I haven’t heard in a long time).

Oh I’m sure they’re going to let me cancel, unless they’re going to renew me for FREE! Wouldn’t that be cool. mrgreen It’s not really worth even the $5/month to me for as little as I travel, and with so many free options out there.

(and by new, I mean music from the 90s that I haven’t heard in a long time).

Much of my collection is from the 90s! Great time for music. peace

Get a subscription to amazon music. It’ll be free for the first 90 days most likely if you’re a prime member. You can use that anywhere.

I love SiriusXM and I just renewed like the guys above were saying. I don’t have a commute right now but will again soon I hope.

What I like is I find all kinds of new artists I wouldn’t hear anywhere else.

Hear them on XM….download from amazon. Win win!

I’m not a Prime member, but have considered it. But then I have to wonder how much needless crap will I buy from Amazon if I can get discounts and free shipping? rotflol whistling

You may already listen to it, but if you like lithium definitely try Octane, channel 37 I believe. I’ve never paid for sat. radio but I also got free a trial with my new truck and then it seems like every holiday weekend they turn it on for free too.

I really like Octane because it’s the only way to hear modern heavy rock/metal nowadays since it’s not really played on the radio.

We have XM in both vehicles and I pay an extra trivial amount to have it over the internet. That allows me to have it in the house and on my phone, which allows me to have it in my boat through the bluetooth connection to the stereo in the boat.

You can sign up right now for 3 months free. I thought it was ok but they repeat the same songs way to much on all the channels. On my drive to Erie last year we would hear the same sing at least 5 times on the ride there and then the same songs on the way back.

I promise the aggressive promotional things won’t stop if you cancel. I haven’t sent them a dime for 5 years and they are still sending me mail to renew. Wish the price of bulk mail was 10x!

May just be my vehicles, but the fidelity of Sirius doesn’t compare to OTA HD radio or other sources. Sounds really flat compared to streaming or OTA.

Love listening to Howard Stern and literally laugh out loud in my truck every time I drive; definitely worth the upgraded subscription cost to me.

I missed the first 3 or 4 years of satellite radio. I have been a XM member since & I will be until i’m gone.

Oh I like the Power Loon! That’s a good station. I kinda like finding good local stations. I get a great rock station at my sister’s farm (95.7 I think) and a wonderful country station at the cabin, Willie 105.7.

I was just on my laptop where all my music is stored… currently have over 1200 songs. eek

So back around 2004 or so I bought a Sirius portable radio with a lifetime subscription ($500) That subscription was for the unit and internet log in. Well last year my login stopped working so I called and they said that my lifetime didn’t work for online. I mentioned I’ve had online access the entire time. I asked for the reps manager and boom right away they gave me my access back. 😉 best investment I’ve made since I can use the app in any vehicle. Second best investment was the lifetime small game and fishing license mn now that i live out of state.

We are on the same boat. I love 1st Wave new wave radio station. The country stations suck, although the bluegrass station is pretty cool, especially on long drives in the country. I also enjoyed listening to the NHL Network radio. For$5 a month I could maybe renew.

I bought a slightly used Expedition in 2016 with 5K miles on it. It’s had Sirius the day I bought it and it still does. I haven’t paid a dime. I called Sirius shortly after and gave them the vin number of the truck to see if I could get the account number attached to it so I could stream it on my phone. They had no account number attached to it.:???:

I promptly said OK thank you and hung up the phone. It may disappear one day but until then I’m enjoying it. Outlaw Country station or No Shoes radio are my most listened to.

Back in 2006 my boat came with a Sirius-ready radio. I bought a refurbished receiver for it. Plugged it in and it just worked and I never paid for it. That receiver died in 2015. I bought another refurbished one. Same thing. Plug it in and it worked and still worked when I sold the boat last fall. Nothing better in the fall to be listening to any college and NFL game while fishing.

Mine loses signal on occasion, but usually if I’m in a carwash or just pulling in/out of the garage. Buildings will likely interfere with the signal but you wouldn’t think trees would.

I tuned into Octane this morning and I like it! I heard a couple of good songs and some by groups like already like (Volbeat and I Prevail) and it was songs of theirs I hadn’t heard before! Not the main songs the big radio stations play. That is one thing I like about Sirius. They don’t just play a group’s top hits. They do seem to try to mix it up more.

If you are going to subscribe to something Google Play music is $10/month I think, not sure if I’m grandfathered. Pretty much whatever music you want AND it removes all ads from Youtube. You can sync your playlists or stations to your phone for when you don’t have service. The HQ stream or downloads sound way better than Sirius too.
