I go to the river thirteen fourteen times a month and often run into silver bass. Are they any good to eat? I think people down south and out east eat striped bass all the time and they are closely related. Maybe cousins.

They are good to eat but you have to get all the red meat off the back of the fillet. They taste better out of the St Crois than the missippi, or at least until you get past Hastings. Also are good smoked!

Don’t let them get warm too. Get them on ice ASAP and they are not bad.

Along with this thought I’d say bleed them and keep them in a cooler of loose ice, especially when the weather warms up some.

…Yes they are great table fair, but like said above you have to get all the RED Meat Off. I really like the back straps from the Silvers the best. I have fried up walleyes and silver back straps at the same time. I never said a word to anyone about the silvers, and I never heard a word about it. When the evening was over and all the fish was gone, both the hot and cold fish. That’s when I told everyone that almost half of the fish were silvers. 90% of the people there were river people who eat a lot of fish, but not a word was said. So clean them right and like ALL fish don’t let them get warm, you will have some good eating fish… …rrr
