I bought a Garmin echomap 73sv unit and installed on the transom of the boat all I can say is wow! I never knew how much info Side Scan would give me. After installing it noticed it has a flasher mode obviously would need the ice transducer This unit is compatible for ice correct? I looked at an old Reeds catalog from last year if I’m correct I can get the case, transducer and battery for around $200 sound right. All I can say is the Garmin is the easiest sonar I have ever used. Makes my Humminbird Helix look like junk and hard to maneuver around. I just can’t find a hard quick answer on the website saying yes or no.

There is a small and a large kit. The small says it fits up to 7″ but I don’t know how, it would be really tight. I have both with a 43dv in the small and a 73sv in the large. Later today I’ll take pictures of them so you can see.

Does anyone have a 7″ in the small to see?

I have a small bag you can have if you want it. It doesn’t have the ducer, but you can find a second hand ducer any where.
I use my 93sv in the winter. It’s awesome to have mapping anywhere you go. I like the garmin over the hummingbird every day of the week.
And yes your answer is yes

Huh, I don’t remember anymore why I didn’t put the 7″ in my small bag. That’s the one I got first and for some reason I ended up putting the 43dv in there.

I have the old Echomap CHIRP 73SV and that isn’t listed as compatible with the small bag, only the newer ones (plus and UHD) are. Not sure what the difference is but if the new ones fit in the small bag that’s great, it’s cheaper and a lot more portable than the large bag.

Like I said I have the small on a 7. Either one will work. Some don’t like how tight the small is. Works fine for me though.

Thank Rippjiggin! I called Garmin today they said I need the large kit because it has the size 10 transducer. The small kit comes with a 8 transducer not sure the issue there if it is just the transducer with the kit. But hey about $375 for the kit verses bucko bucks for the humminbird. I may even just get a genz box or see if the one Bearcat has offered will work. I’m almost giddy

The one bearcat offered will work. Just need a ducer then. Bag size won’t matter. Well you will need the cradle too I guess.
8 vs 10 is basically just cone angle size. I have run both and don’t see a big difference honestly unless you are fishing lake trout in 100 plus feet.

The GT8 is 4 pin and the GT10 is 8 pin. A 4 pin to 8 pin adapter is part 010-12721-00.

The bag I have will work just fine. Then just buy a transducer.
