Side rod storage config

As of right now the rod storage compartment has a smaller door with the foam insert holders. Get about 5-6 rods in there with couple in the bottom. It works, not ideal. PIA to get all configured in there nicely.

Waited to replace floor bc not really sure how I want the boat configured yet. And this entire side of the boat is underutilized for just that. Bet if I ripped off all the paneling, get the wires tucked up on top nicely I’d easily get 10rods on that side with easy access. BUT, how to do it without having it wide open to the elements, and maybe have somewhat of a finished look to it.

Any great rod storage minds have any ideas? Try to get some pics here know exactly what I’m talking about.

The bench seat is usually always folded down and out of way when in fish mode. But again, still pretty new to me so maybe see some use while fishing.

But that compartment goes all the way back, and reaches all the way forward through up to front deck. Some kind of rod tubing system perhaps to snake up in there and around the throttle cables?

What does the other side of the boat look like?

I have a Lund that has open storage on the starboard side like yours. It doesn’t work great for rods so I converted it to storage for paddles, fold down nets, lights, and other misc stuff. Trying to stuff rods up there seems like a recipe for busted tips and snagged lines even if you engineer something.

On the port side I have a rod locker that will fit about 5 rods pretty neatly. I put my seldom used rods in there. On the outside of the locker, I attached rod holders where I have my 5 go to rods right there. Makes it a little bit of pain to get at the other rods but I didn’t hack anything up. The rods store quickly and are good to transport.

Other side is the same, wide open but no door or controls, stuff the lifejackets and throwable in there. Underutilized as well. But that side has the back to back lounger so want to stick with rods on starboard.

Not opposed to taking out the entire wall up to side motor control, but not sure how to “finish it off”. Kids, intoxicated passengers, etc pose a risk to karate chopping all the rods at once if not snuggled into something. Thinking maybe a longer door made out plexiglass, that would split in the middle so don’t need so much room to open.

Google really hasn’t come up with much pics or any further ideas how to get er done. Trying to gather ideas to mull over for the summer. Figure the more I use boat the more I’ll know how I want it when I gut it next winter.

I’ve had my boat for 3 years and I’ve tried to re-engineer some of the storage and never been happy with it. Maximizing the existing space has seemed to be best.

One other consideration is if you ever plan to sell the boat. Cutting up the panels might affect your ability to sell.

Good point on resale. Looking at CL ads you wonder with some rigs WTF those people were thinking. But whatever works for ya I guess.

Don’t want to do anything drastic. Just make it more functional and user friendly and utilize all the freakin space that those side have to offer.
