Side imaging blank screen

I bought a new boat last fall and had several issues with the way the boat was rigged. The I-pilot link was not linked to my hummingbird, the helix 7 on the front wouldn’t read the i-pilot transducer, there were many other issues as well. So I have them the boat to store/repair over the winter. Now the I-pilot is still not working, the down imaging doesn’t work, and the side imaging will only show images out the right side, the left stays black no matter what I try. Does anybody have any insight on what the fix might be for the side imaging?

Without more details the only thing I could think of for you to check are the obvious things. Make sure there is nothing to the left of the transducer blocking that side. Such as the motor. Also make sure the transducer is sitting level. If it’s turned it may possibly only pick up one side. Hopefully it’s just something as simple as one of these things. Not alot of help but couple things worth checking. Good luck

You might have a bent pin where the cord and head unit connect. I had that happen before with the Humminbird quick connect harness thing, one side of my side imaging was blacked out because the pin wasn’t seated into the graph.

With your I-pilot link, make sure your software is up to date.

Also, it won’t work with a Helix 7 unless it’s a G2N or newer (older units didn’t have network capabilities)

Are there two wires running from the graph to the TM?

Lastly, if you’re running 2 graphs with network capabilities and the TM too (3+ things), you’ll need a Humminbird port expander box.

Where are you located? I could help you trouble shoot in person if you’re close to me (Forest Lake area)

With the side imaging try trimming up the motor to see if that helps. I have to trim mine up to get the right side to show on my boat with a mega trandsducer and 115 outboard. My other boat with a 25hp and the compact side imaging transducer I don’t have any problems seeing both sides with the motor down all the way.

I had one side of my SI blank as well. Replaced a Y cable and that fixed it.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I’ll look for obvious wires or broken pins. The unit the trolling motor is linked to is a brand new helix 10 with mega side and down imaging. I don’t know squat about electronics I’m very frustrated this is all brand new stuff and the dealer I got it from doesn’t seem to have a clue about how to make it work. I really just want the side imaging working so I can use it for a few weeks before I send the boat back to get the other stuff looked at.

Been there. You have four things to do.

1: Ensure integrity of connections and cables. This may include replacement to be sure.

    2: Update. Ya never know…

3: Try the graph on someone else’s boat who has the same transducer.

4: Send it in to Humminbird and pay hundreds of dollars.

My fix turned out to be option 4, unfortunately. Something with the circuit board. That was on a 999SI that soon after became a Helix 12.

Make sure the correct transducer is selected, if you have multiple

This is all networking or compatibility issues as far as i’m understanding.

    I’ll do my best here:

Your trolling motor is hooked up to a brand new “helix 10 with mega side and down imaging” …That’s great, but your trolling motor has 2d sonar only and therefore your not supplying your Helix 10 with SI or DI signal because you don’t have it hooked to a transducer…
Unless, you do, then you’ll need a splitter cable to accomplish such a task. One to your trolling motor and the other to your SI transducer.

I’d advise unhook your Helix 10 from your trolling motor. Find your side imaging transducer (should be mounted to the back of your boat) and make sure that is plugged into your Helix 10. That’s the only way your getting SI or DI.

Honestly that’s all the information i can give you provided what you gave us.
Feel free to expand on what you want these units to do and we can explain how to accomplish this. It is harder when you don’t tell us what is what and it just don’t work.

Dumb question, but are you sure your trolling motor is a link model?

If so, is there a bigger round Ethernet cable connecting the two, not just the sonar cable?
