He’s on the countdown to 100 years old. General manager of the Lakers, wheeler & dealer and close personal friend to thousands.
I’ve run into him twice on visits to Mayo, the first he was being pretty tough on the valet attendant. I attribute that demeanour to frustration over health crap but fun to see him in action. jester

    So… love or hate him?

Will he hit the century Mark?

Very sad to try and listen to him on the radio the last 8 or more years.

Love him or hate him he played a big part in pro sports being in Minnesota.

Self made multi millionaire. Have to respect that.

    It sure has been, Dutch.
    Probably a fairly generational topic.
No doubt the most impersonated figure in Minnesota sports history.

Sid is a major factor in the homerism here, no doubt about that! Pretty amazing career and life he’s led too. I used to love hearing him on the radio on the way to or from church on Sundays, but it’s pretty difficult to listen to now. Kudos to him on continuing to work at an age most of us would feel lucky to even see!

Patrick Reusse wrote a book about Sid I would say 15? years ago. Pretty interesting read about a kid who never went to school past I think 8th grade. Lots of people could learn a thing or two about work ethic mimicking that guy.

Love him as an entertainer and no I’m not talking about the last decade. Who doesn’t live a know it all curmudgeon? He was very entertaining to listen to, but I didn’t take his content seriously.

He is pretty much a homer and a shill for the owners but he does have contacts and knows where the skeletons are buried. I always enjoyed his Sunday shows but like you didn’t take anything he said as gospel. It was always a good laugh when he had to talk hockey. He can’t tell you a puck from a lump of coal.

Yes the hockey talk was the most entertaining.

I love his “genius(es)” catch phrase.

I don’t recall him with Huffman. Mona mostly. Since I can’t stand little Mikey Max I wouldn’t listen when he was hosting.

Even I listen to Sid. Although it has been hard the last 10 years or so.
Now I know what Dutchboy and myself will sound like in 10 years.

(There’s the setup, who’s going to hit it out of the park?)

Have only been a MN resident for 5 years, so I do not know the full history of him. How is he self made multi-millionaire? I guess I thought he was just Star-Trib and other media gigs, which generally isn’t a bad salary, but also not millionaire salary either…

He owns property on the St. Croix river and is part of a group who owns apartment buildings. He has done very well.

He founded the Mpls Lakers, now the LA Lakers. He also played a big role in the Washington Senators moving here and becoming the Twins. The media room at US Bank stadium is named after him.
    It goes on & on.
