For the past few Winters I’ve been setting up ice fishing trips for combat vets. I just did one earlier this week on Leech. Phil Bauerly gave me the name of a guide out of Horseshoe Bay Lodge. We discussed what they were hoping to catch and went from there. I got to lake a few hours before the family to get holes drilled and heat going.
The lodge waived the $40 road pass and Austin (the guide) waived his fee as well. He texted me throughout their stay to see how they were doing, if they needed anything and so on.

In short, they were very supportive and kind and a place that I will definitely be using again.
Also, their roads are incredible and they’re out there everyday working hard!

Hey I know that guy! Thanks again Scott, everything was perfect, much appreciated! And you’re right, Horseshoe Bay Lodge did a great job and everything was very professional.

And now that he’s seen fish come out of a hole he’s hooked! Last night I convinced him to turn off Mickey Mouse so we could watch the IDO episode of them slamming jumbo perch on the Mississippi, and he got excited for each one!

Very good folks at Horseshoe Bay. It’s the first winter for this new owner and they’re doing very well running the place.

I was up Weds and Thurs and everything was great: accommodations, food, drinks, ice roads, etc. Fish didn’t cooperate very well but that’s not on Horseshoe. Their roads out me on all sorts of primo structure. With the warmup I bet it’ll improve.

Yeah, the fish were biting during the bitter cold but turned off Tuesday night, we caught two really nice at 7 am and a eelpout at 11:30pm, that was our Wednesday. Tuesday the tullibee were biting well.

I’ll go back to Horseshoe for sure.

Hahahahaha I got a good laugh out of that one. No, our first day there was Valentine’s Day, and little Jack is in a phase where he loves stickers, so he had a few heart stickers all over the place. That is hilarious though, I’ll have to tell the wife that one.

Oh how I know the love affair with stickers for young ones. I have worn a few myself.

When my girls were little the older one put stickers in her little sisters hair. I really don’t miss the fights.

That’s great to hear! My family did a yearly family reunion at Horseshoe Bay Resort for years up until a few years ago. Always a great place to stay, nice restaurant and bar, and good staff all around.

And thank you for taking vets out! I think that is really beneficial for them and their families!
