Should I upgrade my LX-7

I read all the debate about the new firmware for Marcum’s and the issues people had. My question’s to you is, do you think the upgrade was worth it or do I stick with the 3.17? What is the biggest difference with the new upgrade? How long does the process take? Thanks for any input, not looking for any bashing of Marcum. So far, everything about the unit has been great.

Just upgraded my LX 6 today after running 3.17 for a whole year… I liked it the way it was but decided to try the upgrade… Wishing I didn’t take so long… Do it!

What does the upgrade do? I just got a new LX7 and don’t know what the upgrade would do to change what I already have. Can someone please explain?

It revamps your sensitivity settings… Defaults to a much better 6 color mode with less particle interference you can see the smallest jogs much easier and if you are switching between larger baits and smaller ones you won’t have to adjust sensitivity as much if at all.
There is a manual dynamic setting that allows you to put the bottom at the bottom instead of it defaulting to the 20/40/etc… If you are hole hopping in 15-22 feet set manual dynamic to 23 feet and you won’t touch range once. This gives you max use of the water you are fishing on your screen instead of leaving you with 12 feet of the bottom like past versions and most other flashers on a staggered range setting. I hardly have to change a thing out on the ice now, it is even more of a “turn it on and go” unit than before, and I’m kicking myself for taking so long!

It took me 37 seconds to do the upgrade after reading the instructions. It requires a computer with a USB 2.0 port, and a USB 2.0 cable. Pull the big rubber plug off the back of the LX 7 and you’ll see where the cable plugs in when you get to that step. Most cameras use a 2.0 cable to hook to your computer if you don’t have one they are cheap at target or anywhere else. Go to Marcum’s site and make sure you click on the update for your unit.

Thanks for the post. I have and LX6 with 3.17 and was wondering about updating because I like 3.17. I have noticed some issues with the sensitivity, so I guess I will upgrade and give it a try when I head to my son’s house in Sconi in February.

Nevermind! Just realized my LX7 came with the upgrade already!

I still run 3.01 why change it if you are happy with what you have.

That’s why I didn’t upgrade mine until now Kent… I am not one to fix what isn’t broken, I don’t even get flu shots. But I got an ant in my pants and just went with it… Best got better!

I noticed last night fishing next to my buddy, that my LX7 had looked completely different then his. We both have the upgrade, had all the same settings. but my marks seemed significantly larger then his. It’s like my gain was way up and my target adjust was up. We, turned his off and still I had the same issue. Swapped a battery, no change. Its almost like my screen resolution wasn’t tight. If that makes any sense. Anyone had this issue? Only thing I haven’t tried is a new transducer.

Well, I just did it. I downloaded the new firmware on my LX-7. It wasn’t too bad for a computer novice like me. I just watched the download video, did a little click here and move there, and next thing you know, my LX-7 was making the solid beep that I was waiting for. Took alot longer to set up than to download. Messed withthe settings after verifying the new version was on there and now ready to try out this weekend. Just wanted to let you guys know how it went

i updated mine on Sunday…. boy what a HUGE mistake. im one of the guys that fishes the shallow water that was having issues seeing the water column from 3′ and above.now i cant see from 4′ and above on open water mode and cant see from 6′ and above on ice mode. i will say there are some positives about the update but not as many positives as negatives. i Emailed marcum about wanting the old version back or a fix for the new update. i think if we get enough users that email them that they aren’t happy with it they will fix it.
