Should I go in for warranty work or wait?

I have a 2020 Ram. 15k miles. The other day I noticed a small wet spot in my garage. Got under the engine to look and found a small drip of reddish fluid. Now I haven’t seen it drip in days.

Just don’t want to waste time on a goose chase and I think they do charge for diagnostic work initially

A 2020 with 15k should be well within warranty and you shouldn’t pay a dime if it is indeed leaking a fluid.

Bingo. Drivetrain is free. No out of pocket. Could that drip of been there from something else

I guess I realize that but now it isn’t leaking that I can tell.

Red fluid tranny or brake? Anything else I should look for first? Is it possible something leaked and then just stopped?

    I dunno I hate dealing with vehicles…

Also I think they do charge for their time if they don’t find a problem

I’d throw a clean sheet of cardboard under it so you know. Let it sit for a couple days and see what happens.

Taking them to the dealer can be a PIA.

Sounds like tranny fluid to me. Especially if its slick like oil.
Like others have said, monitor. If its yours it hasn’t stopped. I would check the fluid level though if you can.

I have a 2018 and when it sat for a week or so the tranny would drip out of the pan gasket. If drove it more it wouldn’t leak. Dodge said some years they used a gasket and some years they only used silicone. They pulled the transmission pan off and resealed it under warranty and no more drips

Thanks guys. I went out tonight with a flashlight and can still see some drips in there as well as some dried fluid. I’ll be bringing it to the dealer on Thursday

I’ve got money on the water pump. Mine failed at 14K. They were on back order so they got my approval and from the manufacture and installed an aftermarket one.

For a minor/maybe leak. I’d wait till next oil change when it’s on the rack anyway. Ask service advisor to have someone check it out.

Is it from your transmission or your water pump?

Have to vent. Have/had an appointment for this Thursday. Of course had to alter my schedule to be able to drop the truck off for the day, etc. Asked if a loaner would be available since this was warranty and of course the gal couldn’t answer that. Transferred me to a “service advisor” and I left a voicemail. He never called back, this was all last week.

Today I get a call they are so backed up they have to cancel my appointment. Said they are backed up 3-4 days. Not happy but I say OK let’s reschedule for next week. She says no, we are out to the week of the 22nd. How does that math work??!

Anyway I asked to talk to the service manager. Left a voicemail but doubt I will hear back. What a joke. Like I said initially I like going to the dealer about as much as the dentist or DMV. Always a PITA.

Nothing has hit the cardboard in a few days but here is a pic. Hard to get under there to see very good

Dealerships are a pain. I had my F150 in for a routine oil change and they asked if I wanted to have the core heater plug replaced under warranty since they had the part. I said that’s fine, about an hour and a half later I see the mechanic jumping around my truck and I knew something was wrong. They tell me that my alternator is bad and it would be $700 to replace my alternator, the truck is only two years old and is working perfectly and had no warning lights or anything on. The service manager told me I must’ve missed the alternator light! I told him the alternator was fine but they insisted on replacing it, they put a brand new one in, and guess what, the light was still on! So then they put my old alternator back in which of course works fine. Turns out they messed up the wire harness while doing the warranty work so now I have a spliced wire going through my entire harness to replace the one that they broke while they were doing the warranty work. I told them they needed to replace the wiring harness but they refused, they told me they would “work with me“ if the repair fails! Yeah right, Super frustrating, I will never return to Metropolitan Ford.

    I don’t know

Looks like it’s a coolant leak (since it’s drying up)

Could be a bad hose, a bad hose connection, or a failing water pump (they have a weep hole that will intentionally leak when they are failing)

If the leak is small like yours the coolant can evaporate before it drops to the ground (and leave red stains like you’re seeing).

I’d get it in sooner than later, especially with the supply chain problems we’re going through.

Every Dealer I’ve talked to is at least a couple Techs down. Local dealer has billboards offering $10,000 signing bonus for a Tech. Welcome to 2021!!

In my area, needing some body work done is even worse. Auto body shop in my hometown is 4 months out, to get in line to have your car damage repaired.

Bomba Da Aqua like I said! All the dealers are backed up with parts supply and man power shortage, we are all feeling it in the industry a little. Sorry you are going through it but nothing you can do but wait for them to fix it. And on the loaner situation they may not have any because I have heard they had to sell most of them.

totally understand the labor and parts shortage, but I have a hard time coming to grips with the lack of loaners. Not sure about the OP, but when I bought the warranty on my 2018 silverado last year, one of the things they “marketed” to me when they were trying to get me to buy the warranty was the fact that they’d always provide me a loaner when doing warranty work. If they can’t provide loaners because they sold them all for profit, to me they aren’t fulfilling what they sold me on. The old “over promise, under deliver”… leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

Been in the biz forever and this is the craziest it’s ever been. All departments. Parts are super tough so lots of customers are in loaners for months at a time if their vehicle can’t be driven. No cars to take off the lot to use as a loaner. Like mentioned earlier, no shop is fully staffed.

The craziest thing is the car rental companies are calling daily trying to pay retail or more for late model used vehicles to rent out since they can’t source new vehicles like normal.

    Perfect storm.
