Should be another good weekend

  • #1526707

The fishing is still good on Leech Lake and people continue to get out by walking or by ATV. In front of the resort I am starting to see some of the larger cracks start to open and have open water, so please be careful when venturing out. The colder temps have extended our ice for at least another weekend.

Perch fishing continues to be good around the lake. Many anglers are finding their fish shallow and are sight fishing them in 4-8 feet of water. Miller bay, Boy Bay, the Walker Narrows and Cedar Point continue to be the hot spots to find good numbers of keeper perch. The best method for catching these fish are small minnows on 1/16 jigging spoons or small Jigs. If they are being a little fussy you can always throw down a bobber rig and full minnow.

Tullibee continue to be very aggressive on the lake. The deep holes on the main basin are producing good sized tullibee and lots of them. The best method for catching them is using a dropper rig. Make sure you have a 6-8″ dropper with a small jig and waxies. I have also seen some nice whitefish getting mixed in with the tullibee as well.

Good Luck on the ice this weekend and I hope to see everyone at the Northwest Sportshow this week. I will be giving a seminar on Thursday about fishing big water. Be safe on the water and feel free to call us for a more up to date fishing report.

How long of a walk are you talking? Mile or under?

It would be under a mile for most of the people heading out on the ice. I know some areas they are right off of the roads. Drove by shingobee island this morning and it was packed with people fishing. I know people are entering diamond point the same way, just walking off of the road. About 25-30 ice houses off of there this morning. I know the Perch Bite is on right now around the lake.
