I’m just asking for speculation here. Now that the election is over and hopefully things settle down, will general clay shooting ammo become more available? I’m talking run of the mill stuff here, 1 1/8oz. federal top guns, remington gun clubs, winchester super targets, fiocchi, etc. It seems that for the last few months there’s been a shortage, although in general before that whatever fleet farm has on sale in this category is non-existent in their stores. I shoot a good bit of clays and like to have a supply on hand for that purpose only. Not looking for the zombie apocalypse or impending civil war. I’m kicking myself now because I was in rural MN and a store had winchester target loads for $5.20 a box and I bought a case and should have got 4. Is it true that the large ammo mfg’s lean towards rifle/pistol ammo over shells? I read on another site that federal was too busy pumping out centerfire/rimfire ammo to produce many shotgun shells.

A case, is actually called a flat. Have about 50 flats if anyone is looking.

No, a case is 500 shells or twenty boxes. A flat is 250 shells or ten boxes. You are just not old enough to remember when full cases were still produced. wave

For many, many years, a case of shotgun shells contained 20 boxes or 500 shells. Then, a few years ago, the ammo companies dropped the 20 box case and produced a “case” with 10 boxes. Us old timers still refer to a case as meaning a container of 20 boxes and began to call the lesser packaging a “flat” meaning half a case.

Everything comes in smaller packaging now days. Sack-crete type products used to be 80lb bags, now they are only 60lbs. I don’t know if it is OSHA driving the weight of packaging or if we have just become weaker grin

Maybe it’ll be more available because less guys will be shooting, our maybe not because the manufacturers will produce less. All speculation…

AA #8 trap loads is about all FF has up here.
They have had multiple pallets just sitting on the floor for months.

I sure hope ammo come more available sooner than later but the Big D-bag media just wont stop all this hoarding talk…

I stopped in to a certain big box store in Rogers on Monday just to see what the ammo shelves looked like. I was looking for a box or two of 9mm target and was pleasantly surprised. They only had Herters FMJ, but a lot of it. And price wasn’t horrible. I did walk the shotshell aisle and most hunting loads were gone, but there was a decent amount of trap loads. I would think we’ll see stock improve slowly now that we’re heading into winter.

No manufactures don’t produce more centerfire over shotshell they are usually separate plants within the company. I work for a not to be named ammo company we recently produced 54 million shotshells of all types in a 4 week period. We are working 24/7 and hiring if anyone wants to help out.
