Short transducer rant

Is a 12″ unit typically made for small boats? I ordered a 12″ Helix for the new boat and it looks like 25′ run from transducer to helm. The transducer only has a 20′ cable so having to buy a 10′ extension for another $50. Call me silly but 20′ is the same length as all the small display units? Bigger screen, bigger boat?

I don’t know that there is a correlation of screen size & boat size. Would you have been disappointed if they sent you 75′ of coiled up cord? I’m guessing their research indicates that 20′ of cable will handle 90% of units sold. For the bigger boats the guy can generally afford a extra 10′ wink

Yep, betting everything you wrote is true but personally still think it’s stupid. 😂

How big is your boat that you need a 25′ cable to go from the helm to the transom? I have a 20 ft. boat and the transducer cable length was more than sufficient for my Helix 12.

Usually the big boat guys buy the 15”. I would Return the 12 and get the 15” Solix. Cable may or may not be longer

    SuperDave,
Actually, I think your rant is a little mis-placed. Humminbird (like others) use their transducers across a variety of display sizes, so it’s not the size of the display that dictates the transducer cable length. I doubt that’s it cost-effective to offer transducers with different cable lengths.
