When I try to lower my shorestation cantilevered boatlift, it starts to lower and then the flywheel unwinds and the lift won’t lower. I’ve Wd40’d it and put weight on the lift, even made sure the cable isn’t binding. What am i missing?

Is it all the way up? Sometimes with those cantilever lifts, when they’re all the way up, you may need to push the boat back to get the weight moving in the right direction to get it down (if that makes sense). The solution is not cranking it up quite as far.

Is there a bolt and washer that holds the flywheel on the shaft? On my lift the flywheel threads on the shaft but there is also a bolt and washer that prevents it from spinning off the shaft when lowering. A couple years ago, I lost mine and had a similar issue. I tried using a spare bolt and washer but ended up getting the correct replacement from a marine dealer that sold my kind of lift.
