Putting up my fur with the worthless coons this year for the first time. I am debating selling local vs. shipping them. I am not a huge long line trapper curious if the headache and wait is worth if with 30-50 hides or not. I see there is a 11% commission but is there any other hidden fees on top of that as well?

Erick, If you have coon that are stretching near 50″, post some pics!!!! I sell both to Greonwald and NAFA. They each have had their ups and downs. Best indicator is how many hold-overs they have for the early auction from last year that didn’t sell . If there is a huge inventory, you may want to look at local.

I meant that as 30-50 total catches not inches sorry to confuse ya lol I’m leaning to local but FHA seemed to have cleaned house pretty well for last sale but we will see!

Are you guys reading/seeing the prices are going to be down this year? Our buyer out in SD is pretty pessimistic right now. My buddy and I plan to tan a yote or two if the prices are down. Figure what the heck, better to ruin a cheap hide than a spendy one while we are learning.

Every year in the month leading up to the opening of trapping, trappers want higher prices, and buyers talk of soft markets and lower prices. Selling early is a risk/reward situation. Its a risk as you have very little indicators to where the international market will be. If the right buyers come to an auction and their warehouse is empty, prices are up. Little demand at early sales will result in lowball prices. Selling mid season is more stable, though less likely to reap high rewards

A good lesson Randy. Then top it off for guys like us who end up with very little catches(20-30) it makes less sense to wait.
