Any ideas when they start biting, never tried specifically for them early in the season. Looking at the Mississippi river. I use them a lot for cut bait. Thanks!

I get them as soon as the ice comes off. Take as many as you please!

As soon as the water hits 45 degrees or so, we start catching them. I’ve caught them in current seams, on flats with minimal current, up in the woods when floods come, in marinas, etc. They are just about everywhere and will spread out more and become more aggressive as the water warms. Try slowing down your presentation. Whatever people are doing fishing on the river, it’s often too fast this time of the year.

    I agree, 45 degrees.
Now they’re sitting in slack water. Very soon they’ll move into moderate current.

What you use for tackle/bait? Worm on the bottom?
