Have a little forkhorn that comes to feed on my compost pile almost daily. Saw him yesterday right at dusk and his left side is missing. Seems a little early for this.

That is pretty early, but a hard, crusty snow and cold temps will speed the shedding process. I am heading out this week to set up my feeding areas for the winter (cutting cedar trees, feeding a few apples, etc.) I’m hoping for an early drop this year!

I really don’t want to hear this! One of my largest fears while late season hunting is harvesting a “doe” and finding man parts when I get to the deer . How do their heads look immidiatley after they drop? Does anyone have pictures that might educate me on what to look for besides tarsal glands?

I’d say if that’s a super big fear of yours, just take a little more time before you fire (if it’s possible). I’d think wiht a good set of binos you would be able to see something different on their head. It just looks different for a while after. But I’m sure some guys have pics they can show you

A buddy of mine almost stepped on a buck yesterday in a standing corn field. As he was glassing the buck as it ran away, he noticed it only had a half rack. He found the bed not too far away and this was laying in it. Fresh blood on the end of the antler.

    December 13th. Go figure…

I have heard that 83 shed bucks have been shot in Iowa and registered as antlerless

I have also had some pics emailed to me from the area of shed bucks

Unreal. Obviously this seems early but is it a pattern? Like more than usual?
