We wanted to put down some rip-rap or some sort of erosion control, but the state won’t let us. And as far as I know, nobody took any responsibility for cutting the channel.

Very odd, when I believe the DNR will throw rocks on your lakeshore property, if you request it, to stop erosion.

Whoops, sorry. Just noticed this is in the NE thread! The MN DNR will do this.

    Yeah no kiddin’.

What a bummer. Sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, the lawyer route might be your best option at this point. Quickly, I might add.

You will want to check, but as far I I understand, it is perfectly legal to stack rock, concrete, trees, old telephone poles and other stuff next to the bank of a river and if the river happens to take the ground below the pile of “stuff” then so be it

I know that this type of thing happens along the Loup here in central NE and as far as I know, it is leagal but you will want to check on that to be 100% sure. Good Luck!!

    Zach,

You have to get the project approved by the Corp of Engineers. It is pretty easy to do, just a few forms and a written explanation in the form. You also should know the property legals to show exactly where you are wanting to put in erosion control. At least these were the steps I needed to take for a project I was doing last year.

There is some paper work but it can be done.Friends of mine own over 6 miles of the Platte and spend way to much making sure the geese stay there for the winter and have done quite a bit to make sure the river stays as close to the same course as they can to keep the sand bars and channnels the same.

I headed out this weekend to a new piece of property that I recently got permission to walk. I had a lot of other things going on this weekend and gave myself about a 5 hour window to check it out. Got there early (still dark) and it almost felt like I was getting ready for a sit or something. Found my first little guy about an hour into it, the second about 15 minutes after that, and the third just before I was about to leave. They kept getting bigger and it was all I could to to peal myself otta there! There were a few fist pumps and self high fives. Never had a 3 shed day before!

That’s a great day! Congrats! Many shed hunters are complaining about the snow but not you!
