A week late in posting but here are my first sheds of 2011. I stopped by the farm last Sunday morning to pick up few things and jumped 6 deer off a hay field. Since a bunch of snow had melted the week before the hay was actually sticking up through the snow. When I noticed that none of these deer had antlers and thought at least one was far larger than the rest I decided to take a walk.

About 100 yards into the field I found the first shed sitting nicely on top of the snow. While I was taking a pic of this one, about 75 yards away my dog was sniffing around and found the other half. A matched set .

The kids and I looked around a bit later that afternoon but could not come up with any more. This guy should be a good one next year to keep an eye on.

Found a shed rabbit hunting on the 4th of Jan. Was a pretty fresh drop as blood was still wet on the base of the antler.

Thanks all. A quick rough score says it should be about 135 with an estimated 16″ spread. The longest tine is only 8″ but this guy is carrying some nice mass and is very even all the way around. I can’t wait to see him next year

I’ll be looking more in the coming weeks – if only the snow would stop
