Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I managed one more today. Caleb and I took another walk together and didn’t find squat in nearly 5 hours of walking. On the way back to his place I looked out the truck window and seen this guy laying about 40 yards out into a field. I know the landowner so I picked it up and left it on his doorstep with a note to rib him a little….he had drove his 4 wheelie about 3 feet away from it

To avoid a long heated rant here I’ll just say that when I got to work last night I found out that I’m getting hosed on the farm that I had planned to shedhunt starting on the 15th. I work 12 hour nights so walking right after work doesn’t leave me with much time to sleep, but knowing that going to bed was only going to lead to tossing, turning, and overthinking the whole situation…. I headed home this morning at 6am and grabbed BB and headed to the farm. As I suspected all the usual spots had been picked clean, I’ve never walked on a carpet of poop like what I did today, and not an antler to be found. So I headed to a large north facing slope that happened to be pretty well picked over too After gridding a couple bedding areas I started walking a sidehill trail and spotted a smallish 4 point laying tines down about 40 yards ahead. I quickly grabbed my camera and zoomed in to get a long distance ATL, but BB was too quick and was already coming joyfully back to me with our prize A short walk further down the ridge and I spot a real beefy 4 point with a kicker on the G2, and once again BB is working downwind of it when I see her do a 90 degree turn and snag it up just as I was grabbing the camera. It was like a light switch turning on when BB found the first one, she hunted hard the rest of our walk without any luck. After walking hard for 5 hours and being on the verge of delirium we had to call it a day.

I just cant get over how finding these sheds really gets one so excited. I havent been out the last 4 days and can only think somebody else is picking up those big bad bones I’ve been waiting to find. I have even fallen a sleep thinking of a good game plan for the next shed hunting expedition. Anyways great finds and boy I wish I had a dog like that

I started my 7 day shed hunting vaction off pretty well today. Walked for a couple hours without any luck on some low ground that the deer had been crossing to get back and forth between bed and feed. Headed to another part of the farm and hiked the rest of the north facing slope that I had found two on the other morning. I was coming to the end of the property and feeling like it was probably gonna be a bust…..all of a sudden I looked up the hill and seen BB come out of a deadfall with a nice 5 point! Prior to that my arse was draggin, all it takes is one and the spark was back in my step . We work the area out pretty well hoping for the match and when i came around a small point I seen tines glowing in the sunlight. Took a few steps up the hill and I seen what I thought was the match, but turned out to be a four point side from another buck. We covered some more ground but didn’t have any more luck.

Well between yesterday and today I’ve spent about 9 hours gridding picked cornfields. I hate walking corn on sunny days but by keeping the sun at my back I’ve been pretty confident that I’m not walking by many. That being said, yesterday produced a big ol’ goose egg. This morning found me doing more of the same…stumbling through more picked corn and not findin squat. I told BB “2 more passes and we’re gonna call it good enuf” Just then I looked down the cornrow and seen something out of place. Sure enough a nice 5 point that will probably go around 55″ I didn’t have my camera with me so no ATL Taking a little break right now and will hit another spot before dark

Apple trees sounds great to me…I have several areas with apple orchards that I have recently gotten permission to hunt.

I haven’t had any time recently to be on here but here is what I came up with last Saturday while walking a farm with a friend. I left the sheds with the landowner, so the season’s stack didn’t grow at all but had a nice time walking some beautiful ground and BB even managed to find an old earthen bone that was heavily chewed.

I thought I was done sheddin for the season, but while I was out scouting and tweaking a stand I hung last season I came across an old shed. When I picked it up, I immeditely recognized it as the match to a shed I picked up in 08′. It’s actually kind of ridiculous that I can’t remember my family members birthdays to save my life, but I pick up a chewed up old bone and recognize the damn thing After moving my stand about 30 yards, I continued down the ridgline mainly scouting to see where the deer were bedding. Spotting tines sticking up through the oak leaves about 40 yards below me on the ridge I let out a “wooohooo!” When I got to it I couldn’t believe it, it was from the same deer as the old one I had just picked up….only two years older and not a shed, it was actually broke off right at the brow. I rattled this buck in twice on november 2nd and passed because I thought he was 3 1/2, but according to his sheds I’m thinking he was 4 1/2 last year.

With the dark, dreary, rainy day yesterday I couldn’t stay out of the woods. BB and I went back to where I found the two the other day to see what we could get into. Nothing to earth shattering, but a fun day none the less. Little dink set laying together on a trail.
