Many of the guys I’ve fished with over the decades are “tinkerers” and often spend time altering and testing lures and sometimes take it right up to making their own.
I started making this about the Jigging Rap and Jigging Shad Rap but thought, “Na…..let’s not limit it. Much info out there from guys who tinker with their lures” so I’m opening it up to any lure or spoon you have altered and feel it’s an improvement.
Some of the rest of us might give it a go.
On the Jigging Rap, I’ve read everything from guys removing the front hook, removing both the front and back hooks, putting a short dropper line on the bottom for the treble…….and the list goes on. Having caught just about everything on one, the itch to “play” with improving things has been part of my life too long to stop now.
I HAVE switched the bottom hook to a single hook tipped with about everything and they seem to work fine. If it’s an IMPROVEMENT though, I really cannot say for sure.
I have ordered similar lures that do not have the front hook and provide a slightly different action but I do want to play with altering the Jigging Rap and just seeing how the swimming action may be altered, and countering it as I see fit.
I’ve some Jigging Shad Raps coming and I see a few are complaining that “they are not balanced” so…I’ll be testing them too.
At any rate, I’m sure others than myself would like to see how guys have altered their own choices, why and maybe see some photos of them ……and the fish caught too.
Thanks in advance to any who will share theirs.
God Bless
Steve
