I don’t know if this will help, but this is what Marcum suggested after I did the 5.10 firmware update on my LX7:
Manual Modes- digital series
Did you have the system in Auto or Auto dynamic range mode?
Try using manual and manual dynamic when ice fishing.
Auto and auto dynamic should primarily be used when open water fishing. (i.e. in a boat) This setting constantly sends out multiple signals to adjust to the changing depths. The pause you see is the processor trying to keep up with all of the readings it is getting back if you are using Auto or Auto Dynamic when you are ice fishing.
When you are moving, the processor will only get the return for the depth you are currently in. When you are NOT moving, the unit is receiving all of the signals coming back and will have to decide which one to use. Manual and Manual dynamic only sends out one signal and therefore only needs to interpret one return, this is why we recommend using manual or manual dynamic when you are ice fishing.
You will not get the same three second pause while in one of the manual modes.
You will also want to adjust your sensitivity, gain mode, ping rate and target adjust if you have not already. Below is a good stating point on how you should have your settings set but everyone fishes a little bit different so these are just general settings and you can fine tune your system as you like.
Range Mode: Manual of Manual Dynamic
Sensitivity 15-20 (latest firmware)
Gain Mode:(latest firmware)
Under 10 FOW: Gain 2
Over 10 FOW: Gain 1
Ping Rate:
Under 10 FOW: 1-2
Over 10 FOW: 3-4
Target Adjust: This all depends on how big you want your returns on your screen to be. A general setting to start out with is around 4-5 and adjust accordingly to your preference.
