Brads stick baits – primarily used for fishing the surface on Lake Superior for salmon/trout. They have lots of patterns that would be great for walleyes.

What’s your line diameter and how much are you letting back? A #6 or #8 HJ should really max out at 6 and can be kept shallower by adjusting line out. Here are a bunch of others that max out at 6 ft, several of these max at 3-4ft:
Bomber Long A — largest size maxes at 6; smaller sizes run to 3 and 5 ft
Storm Original Thundersticks — the 3.5″ size only runs to 5; the jointed 5.5″ size maxes at 4
Yozuri Crystal Minnow (floating)
Smithwick Floating Rattling Rogue ( stay away from the largest size, the others are in your zone)
Storm: Original Thundersitck, Original Jr Thundersitck, Thunderstick Madflash, Twitch Stick
Sebile: Koolie Minnow SK
Live Target: Yellow Perch, Pumpkinseed, Bluegill
Rapala: Flat Rap, Jointed, Orignal Floating, X-Rap, Husky Jerk
Salmo: Minnow, Sting,
Smithwick: Super Rouge Floating
The inside rod can literally be in that 1-2′ range, shouldve maybe said 1-4′ really. Main motor is up, kicker down and grinding shorelines, literally.
I’ll look at those other baits.
Huskys aren’t more than 10yds back, if that, and banging bottom, which isn’t a bad thing at times, but looking for other options. Seems like anything plastic dives too deep, balsa keeps er up.
Thanks for info thus far fellas!
I run into this on P2 trolling the shorelines. At certain times I like to get in super tight to shore. I’ve probably had a half dozen crankbaits with busted bills or they are cracked down the middle from beating on the bottom. It’s amazing how effective slow trolling and banging the bottom can be.
Well I tried to attach a spread sheet but…

Hey are you using planer boards to get the lures away from the boat? That shallow
would almost think the boat would scare them but I would not know.
Thanks
No. Planer boards at night is a no-go for me, plus trying to keep em right tight to shore would be even bigger PIA.
Shadow raps did well for us this last spring in cold shallow water. Decent trolling bait at speeds under 1mph. This was the floating shadow rap and not the shadow rap shad. We trolled these a lot in the 6′ range. Super shallow you might be better off casting them. When you pause these baits is where they really shine.
Have a knock on the original floaters? They were the primary bait i used all spring and summer this year. They cracked on the underside from the bill to the last treble fairly quickly and the paint chips off much quicker than i feel it should. I’ll be giving the BX minnow and live target baits the first go round next spring. Also very curious to hear other recommendations, thank you!
Have a knock on the original floaters
No knock, I think:???:
Bills will crack off here and there, haven’t really noticed the chipping, then again haven’t gotten into any big fish so hard to say with the originals.
Few of my huskys looking beat up, but then they’ve seen some bigger ones and I dont mind em looking a lil less clowny.
For a plastic bait the bomber long a runs really shallow, probably the best I know. It does have a wider wobble. I’d try putting down the baby pole and putting some 20 or 25# mono on a casting rig. The thick line will help keep the baits higher.

Dilly. ,Dilly! Lol.
I feel I just got sent to the pit of misery…..
Cmon nick grab a big boy pole
I will say, all my baits run shallower because I use 30 lb metered power pro for trolling on my snoopy rods.
