I was just down at the Red Rock dam yesterday and there are dead/dying shad everywhere.

I was hoping to pick up a few walleyes but wasn’t sure anything would be effective after a winterkill like this.

    Any thoughts?

Gizzard Shad die off every year by the millions. Anytime there’s a temp change of the water a large portion of them die off.

The only reason God put shad in our waters was to feed the other fish. When they die off, the sturgeon and cats come in to clean off the river bottom, but even then there’s plenty left over for the turtles, snakes, birds and other opportunistic feeders.
