I was on the river yesterday, and found a large Shad die-off. I scooped up a half dozen of the larger, dying Shad and froze them.
I’ve never used Shad for dead bait for Pike before – are they oily enough to make them attractive bait?
Hoping to try them on Mille Lacs in a few weeks….
Better check regs first to make sure you can legally to this. Might need to call DNR for best info. Better to be safe than sorry.
Yeah, good idea. I read the regulations, if the shad came from the Mississippi, it would be illegal. These actually were on the Vermillion river.
I emailed them and haven’t heard back. I’ll just play it safe, and hold off.
