That’s been tried before. Remember PERM and even less successful org’s like “Save Mille Lacs Sportfishing” which never really got any traction.

Yes, and both of those organizations were focused on one issue on one lake, which is easily dismissed by the public and politicians. Why would a lake shore owner on ______ Lake or average joe fisherman, not on, near or invested in Mille Lacs, care about that issue? And more importantly why would a politician not from that district want to wade into that issue?

Does anybody think we can put it together? Having a protest on twilight road and 169 would get a little attention about an hour before the weigh in.

No, I don’t think you can put it together, but if you are actually trying I’ll be in line with the Pro V.

OK, I agree with what you are saying here…so what then were you proposing when you said this?
“If you want to end all this BS, you will need to get a group together large enough to affect politicians inbox’s and re-elections. Actively pursue any politicians not supporting your cause (look at Muskies INC for an example). And get the politicians who support your cause to start a movement for state-run casino’s. Once the tribe(s) feel their golden goose is threatened, you will have the leverage needed to get them to relinquish rights.”

Obviously Mille Lacs is the lightning rod for all of this…the epicenter of this whole treaty kerfuffle. tongue

What would you say Walleye fisherman outnumber Musky Fisherman by in MN? 10-1? 30-1? Yet Musky fisherman have proven to have great political influence, while walleye fisherman have little to none. Start Walleyes Inc (or something of the sort) “with the goal of continual improvement of the walleye resource through rearing and stocking efforts and sound conservation practices. Today, departments of natural resources have realized the value of stocking walleye. And to become a national voice of the protection of the walleye species.” (this was literally copied from TC Muskies Inc and the word Muskies replaced with walleyes). If you had a devoted following of even 10% of MN Walleye fisherman, you would have a VERY powerful political force.

Obviously Mille Lacs is the lightning rod for all of this…the epicenter of this whole treaty kerfuffle

This is short term thinking WS. Mille Lacs is the current controversy du Jour, but there is sure to be more (attn. Lake Vermillion, Red Lake, Leech…). If there were such an organization focused on state wide issues, the focus could and would shift to wherever it was needed next. Like the Gull Lake Musky issue, the local musky chapter didn’t have the power to influence much, but once the TC and St Cloud and Fargo/Moorhead etc. Muskies Inc. chapters got involved (online, in person meetings, social media advocacy etc) there was significant movement.

IMO, you have to take their money away. Where do they get their money? Casino’s… Why do people like casinos? Entertainment beyond dinner and a movie and opportunity (however horsesh– opportunity) to win money.

When have we lobbied for state run casinos? when the state needs money for frivolous things AKA stadiums.

What if state run casinos and resorts paid for health care for all Minnesotans?? HOt button issues that affect everyone, not just vikings fans. NOW you would get people to listen and vote seriously. The more fun you have at these state run places the less you pay in health care….. sure sounds good to me.

Then you put these places with demographics in mind. Indians are forced to build on reservations only.

Take the money away!!!!! you might have a chance then.

We need 1000 or more trucks with boats to be here on Sept 18. Does anybody think we can put it together? Having a protest on twilight road and 169 would get a little attention about an hour before the weigh in. My guess is it would be difficult to get 10. Alot of people can talk the talk, but when it is crunch time, nobody wants to get involved. I am in, all we need is 999 more. BLM has shut down major freeways in the cities with less than that

What do us bass fisherman have to do with the sorry state of the walleye fishery?

The answer would be nothing. A protest at our event would only enhance the well deserved stereotype that MN is not a friendly state for bass fishermen. What a great way to drive potential business away from the area. Brilliant plan there Puddle!

Yes, 4 years ago the tribes gave $152K to the GOP and $170K to the DFL. I’m not sure how valuable the $18K difference could be a “cash cow”. But we all have different perspectives.

You obviously haven’t been paying attention. The walleye population is in great shape moon
