Senkos for walleyes

While back noticed a Fock bar littered with senkos from guys fishing bass beds. Thought it was impressive to see how fast they decomposed….until getting this walleye.

That would be 9 senkos in the belly. Had been plugged up long enough to have nearly all the flesh gone. Skin and bones

That’s crazy and gross at the same time.

I’ve often wondered about plastics like gulp and such if they decompose???

I’ve caught. Lot of fish that I’ve kept over the years that had one or two in their gut.

Wow, that’s a head-scratcher in many ways. Where did that walleye find that many Senkos to eat? Wonder if someone threw all their torn-up ones overboard in a big handful which allowed that walleye to scavage them in one small spot? Or was she cruising shorelines to look for Senkos littering the bottom randomly? We’ll probably never know for certain but this is very odd.

That really is a mystery how all those ended up there.

Fock bar is structure on a body of water, just shallow enough to kiss the lower unit on a deep draft boat.Thump,oh Fock!
At least you know that pink is a good color there.

No head scratcher on this lake. Over population of smallies and ten times the amount of guys bed fishing them. Cruise along the shore and you’ll see hundreds of plastics scattered all over. Usually by end of June most are gone, and this is part of the reason why.

I was shocked to see that picture and even more shocked to hear about the lake bottom being visually littered with plastics.

Fishing pressure has been getting higher and higher everyday it seems like.

Mississippi river trolling this year, I have had 2 seperate lines cut by other boats running up onto my lures from behind. Never had that happen before.

That is crazy wow! Has anyone here ever caught an accidental walleye with a Senko?

Yes. Happens almost every season for me.

Would never have thought that was how old Senkos would wind-up, but the photo clearly shows that at least some walleyes are scavenging them intentionally. Amazing to me and a little concerning.

    X2.
I can see the use of soft plastics becoming the new lead tackle issue of the future. I’ve always wondered how long it takes to break down. If exposed to sunlight, probably fair quick. But, sitting on the bottom of a lake?

Caught a nice walleye on a senko in the weeds about this time last year. Hot day and caught him in 3 ft of water

Interesting observation randy thanks for sharing.

Very few senko eyes are reported being caught, which would lead me to believe they don’t like the active presentation and would prefer the subtle dead/still like appearance, or they aren’t in the areas when these anglers come thru with the baits, which means they come in at night to sniff around.

Night time I wouldn’t find myself using finesse presentations probably ever since I feel more aggressive tactics will put more fish in the boat, but, this certainly gives a guy thought on if the raps just aren’t working but you know the fish are there.

I can’t speak for Senko’s, but most soft plastics are made from plasticized PVC, the same stuff plumbing is made out of. And like PVC pipe, the baits take forever to break down. Silicon baits, even longer. Gulp, on the other hand, is made from a starch, and will quickly break down. I imagine that there might even be some food value to them should they get injected.

That walleye I posted above was wacky style, fishing with grubson. I thought it was a clump of weeds so I was trying to shake it off all the way back to the boat. That’s how exciting walleye are to catch chased

Do you guys lose a lot of plastic baits while bass fishing? I use a number of different styles on walleye and panfish and aside from a lost tail piece here and there I generally pull off beat up plastics and toss them in my trash bag while fishing and don’t see losing a whole bait? Are whacky rigged senkos pulled off frequently?

Depending on if the guys are using the rubber holder pieces or not. With out them they always come off every few fish. With them they hardly come off. I use them because I don’t like loosing plastics

LOL that’s funny. The dead weight of a walleye huh

I lose a few. Not a ton though. Some plastics are more durable than others. When mine become ripped, I change them out and throw the ripped ones away when I get home. Rarely do I just lose the “whole” plastic. Usually mine get ripped because of pike.
