It’s been hit hard over the years. Most of it is miles off the neaten path. Some it’s dead already some yellow and even some green yet. I gave it up years ago. Being part goat helps.

Yeah i was told over harvesting has brought it close to extinction, also overgrowth and new deer tick diseases and Lyme deter a lot of ppl from looking , same person told me the wild ginseng around here is some of the best in the world quality speaking ,is there any truth to this

Where are you looking for it public or private land? What you speak of is true about best in the world and over harvest.

Prices are down as they have been the last 2 years.

Lots of work to do it LEGALLY, and we’ve had trespassers and diggers on our land looking for it. Fines for the guy that got caught were heavy. We expect to see him doing it again.

So far only public land but would love to find permission to hit private areas , I’m not experienced enough at it to make any money but i enjoy being in the woods and like the ‘hunt’. That’s too bad to hear about the trespassers running about , i don’t plan on doing that although it is a little discouraging hearing story about van of people showing up to a public spot and wiping out the entire hillsides

Worse part is out of staters coming and wiping things out . I met a group from Indiana this spring doing this during morel season , nice people ,but i wanted to tell them to go back where they came from . just chapped my a$$ when they showed me 20 pounds they had picked that morning . 2 pillow cases full in one morning
