Selling old boat, should I put an old Depth Finder on it?

I am selling my old boat (Alumacraft Magnum 165) I am taking my HDS-7 with me to my new boat. The old boat has a cheap humminbird depth finder on the front, but nothing on the dash. A guy at work is selling this old “Bottom Line” depth finder for $50. Would I be helping the sale of the boat by installing that Bottom Line, or better off selling it without one on the dash?

I can only speak for myself but if a boat had an old finder like that on the boat it would not entice me to buy anymore than I already was. I would likely just try to sell it for what I could and use that money to buy a new finder

I suppose that it could entice a potential buyer and sweeten the deal a bit…I also say, save your $$$. I think most folks would enjoy setting up their boat just the way they want it. A hundred dollars here and a hundred there is just part of owning a boat.

It depends on the price. Boat under $5k I would, that price range you have the weekend warriors who just want a boat to take out once in a while and an older depth finder might just fit the bill.
Anything over that starts to come down to the buyers fact he’s spending quite a bit of money on a boat, and say $7500 boat, an extra 3% would get him a nice sonar/GPS.

Clean boats that are water ready with no “easy fixes” required are always going to be more desireable to the casual angler.

Plus, you have to look at it from a buyer’s point of view. The guy just got the green light from the Chief Operating Officer for a new boat, is in general NOT going to want to go back before the Central Committee on Financial Allocations for yet MORE funding for a depth finder.

Now it’s not going to add $ to the selling price. What it will do is add candy sprinkles to make it more of a plug and play package.

Don’t dither for long, though. Now is Prime Time, put that baby on the market.

Sell the boat without the old sonar give the option of the old sonar for $50. That way you get the price you want for the boat without being taken by your freind for $50 for an old sonar ,company out of business, that should just be handed down to someone else.
