Self Inflating PFD

I wanted to share some things I learned about self inflating PFD’s. It’s all good. About 8 years ago I purchased an inexpensive version from Cabela’s. (no this is not a Cabela’s commercial) I did nothing in the way of maintenance or cartridge changes. I even left it in my boat over winter in storage. I did not know until recently that you are not supposed to let these things freeze. Wondering if it still worked I tested it on a willing grandson. Put it on him and he jumped into a pool and went under. Within 4 seconds it self deployed. Two things surprised me…..first it inflated with real force. Second….the air bag is very large and could hold up a pretty big person. The air bag is made of some real tough material too.
I have been told by dealers that you do get what you pay for when you buy these gadgets. I recently purchased two high end self inflate PFD’s.
