I was wondering what some of your guys favorite streams are and what your best lures are for trout ( not any flies) thanks my goal for 2017 is to catch a brown over 15″ and my first brookie

Curious why not flies? I think lures are a waste in mn trout streams but maybe some find different. If you fish with a spinning set up I would say a plain hook with a worm under a split shot. Good luck

Floating original raps are a great trout lure. You need to carry an assortment of colors and sizes. Have some countdowns along as well. Mepps spinners are a solid trout lure and again you need to carry assorted sizes and colors. If you are shopping for larger trout remember that they don’t get that way by dining daintily….tempt them with something substantial: those Raps in sizes 9 and 11, the Mepps up to a size 4 or even a five. On the spinners, I like a bare hook, no hair/feathers.

Big browns love to eat minnows and other small trout. Can’t beat original raps or jointed raps in sizes 7-9 even 11 for the big ones

LOL ya keep telling yourself flies are for tiny trout. I sent a few pics of trout I’ve taken(I have larger by far) and released on a fly.Never yet seen a lure fisherman out fish a fly fisherman on any trout waters I fished over the past thirty years if both anglers know their stuff. Only guys whom have never learned how to fly fish think that lures work as well on trout as flies on most waters. Fish safe

I have been chasing trout in the wisconsin driftless for 55 years.

If both anglers know their stuff it is NO CONTEST.

I’ll take that bet to the bank. I do both….If I’m big trout hunting the fly rod stays home. and the 6’10 medium spinning rod with 10lb braid comes out.

as far as brookie fishing….flies are adequate.
you could almost catch a brookie on a bare hook.
