Can anyone recommend a decent SD pheasant lodge that does a reasonable hunt at reasonable prices? I know all the MegaBucks lodges, not looking to spend that much or go that far.

I’m looking for 2 days and I may even want to bring my youngest boy with just to watch and participate a little even though he’s way too young to carry a gun.

    Thanks.

hiddenhilllodge.com comes to mind as I see their sign when I’m up around Webster SD fishing
I’ve never used them but looked at their website just because I’m familiar with the area

Platte Creek lodge in platte sd. I’m not sure on prices but I did stay there when we were fishing out there. It’s a really nice place. The other thing is you can do it get a hotel and knock on doors or hunt public land. I know the later you go the prices get cheaper.

I was assuming by “lodge” it meant game-farm hunting and not wild?

No, would prefer wild hunting, but that gets into a complicated question of knowing what I’m getting.

With stocking pheasants being the rule rather than the exception now, it can be very hard to know for sure. Many hunting operations don’t go out of their way to advertise one way or the other if they stock birds.

I have been hitting SD on a late season DIY trip, but thought a couple of extra days might be nice. Also, late season as you all know can be both good and a gamble at the same time. Last year we had very limited access due to deep drifting snow in central SD in late November, so sometimes you’re the pigeon and somedays you’re the statue.

And in mid December last year I hit high 60s for a few days on my trip. You truly never know. I take a trip near Winner, SD every year the 2nd weekend of December.
2014- Upper 60 degrees and too warm for the dogs to hunt really hard. T-shirt weather.
2013- Only year we didn’t do our trip (not due to weather)
2012- We got snowed in and had to stay an extra day. I-90 got shut down and our gravel road was drifted shut.
2011- High 50s and beautiful out
2010- Bad snowstorm, same weekend the metrodome roof collapsed.

If this pattern of every other trip weather continues, 2015 will be a snowy trip for us it looks like…

Cool that you keep track. It’s funny how different the same date can be from year to year. I have had every kind of weather on every opener. Hunting and fishing.
