Anyone use a SD card reader to check trail cam pictures on your phone? I like the idea of using my phone to check cards. Can save pictures I want easily with out needing to carry another “screen”. Also the small size is nice. I had bought a Moultrie one. It took a crap. Sent it in, they sent me 3 brand new ones. All have quit reading cards. Then bought a Vivitar from walmart, junk under a year. I know have 40 minutes of video on a card off food plot and no way to look at it. Anyone know of one that lasts?

For the life of me I don’t recall where I got this one. I want to say Amazon, but it’s been years. It’s worked nicely and has a variety of ports.

I just took a laptop with me on the UTV when I didn’t have enough cards to just swap them

    Why haven’t I thought to have 6 SD cards for my 3 cameras….mind blown….

I think I’ll probably go that route now, but I’ve been thinking about getting something myself to look through my pictures in the woods and then fire it back up.

I have a cheap one also that doesn’t work that great. I’ve heard the actual apple ones work good. there a little spendy but probably worth it. I will probably be ordering one myself.

I use the card readers to download cam pictures to my phone. I just find that easier because then I can come back home, plug in my phone, and transfer 10 cameras worth of pictures from my phone to my media drive with one click.

I’ve been using various card readers for about 10 years now and what I’ve found is to buy them 2 at a time. They last anywhere from a couple of months to 2 years, it’s totally random. So eventually you’ll need the spare.

Here’s >the one I’m currently using. I bought 2 of these last April and I’m still using the first of the two. Works great.

It can take a little while to download while in the field, especially if you have over 500 pics on the cam or if you do video. Today, for example, I had to sit and wait while a cam I hadn’t downloaded for a while spooled off 512 pictures. It took about 3 minutes, so not too bad.

I found swapping chips got to be a hassle after I got more than about 5 cams. Remembering the chips, keeping the chips organized, downloading the chips, making sure the chips got back in the truck… Too much faffing around.

To me the big payoff is it’s so easy to get home and dump all the pictures to my media drive and then view them from the comfort of my laptop.

I use the BoneView now, It has worked well for a couple years. The other brands I’ve tried have been junk after less than a season.

I have the apple version that is shown earlier in the thread. A little spendy, but I have used it daily in the fall for 6-8 yrs now. Literally every single day, as I have cameras near my house that I check every day, and the reader is still working fine. well worth the few extra bucks on initial purchase.

I usually pull the cards (and replace with fresh cards) from my four cameras every month on a Friday or Saturday. When the gal and I are having drinks, we’ll whip out the laptop and go through the pictures.

Fun and cheap entertainment on a Friday/Saturday night.
