    Remember 409?

    “She’s real fine, my 4-0-9
    She’s real fine, my 4-0-9
    My 4-0-9”

Loved the car songs back in those days. Many classics though…so, “Wouldn’t it be Nice”?

How many know what a 409 is? Or a “little GTO”?

    Enjoy the 409…

A “deuce” is shorthand for 1932 Ford “deuce coupe”, a common hot rod from the 1960s.

Perhaps a generation behind Sharon. Ever watch American Graffiti? An all time classic…Milner drove the little deuce coupe.

Going back, Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys released “Little Deuce Coupe” in 1963.

    “Little deuce Coupe
You don’t know what I got”

    Enjoy…

    MTV…launched August 1, 1981.

No. I was referring to Friday Night Videos, which now that I’ve looked it up, debuted in July of 1983. It was a huge hit.

The reason Friday Night Videos was the hit that it was was that Cable TV was not ubiquitous in the early 1980s and many cable systems didn’t carry the fledgling MTV at first.

Purple Rain did not debut on MTV. It was shown in theaters, it was released in the summer of 1984 as I recall. To say it was the teen hit of that summer would be an understatement, although it was slow and uneven to make the rounds of theaters, I’m not sure why. I recall hearing after Prince died that it cost something like $7 million to make and it grossed over $70 million just at the box office alone.

It was more of a “spoof” of American Graffiti…I’m guessing?

American Graffiti at the time was loaded with a cast that had already arrived or arrived after appearing in that, launching into greater glory. Ha…
starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Mackenzie Phillips, Bo Hopkins, and Wolfman Jack. Suzanne Somers and Joe Spano also appear in the film.

    Ah…so?
Back in 1981, I just got married and moved into our first house with my fresh new wife. Madison Wisconsin.
We started off with that new “cable” tv and had MTV right from the start.

It was on MTV I first watched Purple Rain. Up until then, I was watching a lot of Madonna. wink

CCR’s “…There’s a bad moon on the rise…” alternate is “there’s a bathroom on the right.”

My personal fave Elton John lyric “…hold me closer Tony Danza…”

The one lyric that still baffles me to this date. Have never figured out what it means??? Anyone know this one:

Eddie Money – “Take me home tonight”

    Take me home tonight
I don’t want to let you go ’til you see the light
    Take me home tonight
Listen, honey, just like Ronnie sang
Be my little baby, oh, ho, oh

What the hell does “just like Ronnie sang mean”! Who is Ronnie? and what did he sing?

    -J.

Ronnie is either Ronnie Spector or the Ronnetts. The song is a tribute to “Be My Baby” by the Ronnetts.

And I am a little late answering a question that was already answered…

Oddly enough I sometimes check the classic hits station on the way home in between bad country songs. They played “take me home tonight” the day this post started. Just weird.

I butcher a lot of lyrics. Then I find out the actual words and I always think, yeah that makes sense.

Take me home tonight isn’t necessarily a rare song coffee

So really, nobody misunderstood the lyrics, “rock the casbah” or whatever? Always thought that was one of the most misheard/misunderstood lyrics of all time…

WAC sort of a spoof of AG but a little different. Best line in it is where some guys take a leak in some punch at a school teachers party. One of them taste the punch and comments “wow that has got some Wang to it” lmao.

For quite a while I could have swore in Pearl Jams ‘jeremy’ that Eddie Vedder was saying “Jeremy’s smoking 3 packs a day”(spoke in class today)

My hearing has been shot since high school. I just grew up totally clueless in regards to song lyrics. For me the song lyrics, were just another instrument adding tone to the tune.

    Haha
So I’m not the only one who won’t watch TV without captions )
