Scope Height

I added a removable base so I could remove my red-dot in the field and use the iron sites. It looks high to me. Maybe the wrong red-dot to use in this manner due to its tall base? The good news is instead of 1/3 front post witness its down to 1/4 but seems awfully high off the barrel.
    What do you think?

Anyone want to buy a Vortex Spitfire AR red-dot?….. )

If you want to go QD with a vortex red dot, get the Sparc, or newer Spitfire AR with removable base. You can use the same ADM QD mount you currently have with either of the models I mentioned above. You’re kind of stuck with that height since that model of spitfire does not have the removable base like the new models.

I’m going to be running a Sparc on an ADM QD mount on a 10.5″ AR pistol build eventually.

X2 on the Sparc. They are awesome little sights. I don’t think it’s too terribly high as it sits, but it may be a little awkward with the cheek position. Luckily red dots are forgiving.

Looks very uncomfortable. Is there a specific reason to have sight that high? Just cuious.

No. As stated I wanted the versatility of removing the scope without tools. I bought the scope before coming to this conclusion. Why have backup iron sights if you cannot easily use them?
Live and learn. I will get a different scope to accommodate the removable base.

I’m not familiar with that model but we have our rifles set up so you can see your iron sight through the glass of the red dot when the iron sights are in the up position.

    Greetings and salute,

Scope height for the AR is rather complex. I posted a photo of my first AR build. I like the carry handle and iron sites. I do not like batteries linked to optics. I do like Trijicon. I can use both iron sites, and scope, and maintain the carry handle.
    Cheers,

Std battle sight height on the M16 and XM-177 was 2.6″ above bore. Seems that when our Uncle built the Matty Mattel, that is where it fit ergonomically for the average ground pounder (cheek weld, etc). It is where I suggest anyone start with dots, optics, etc.

I don’t think it looks like an issue. I’d purchase a cheek riser for a more comfy fit.
