Took the week off to take the kids camping this past week. My youngest first time camping in a tent. First night was a little restless and big sis had to hold his hand because he was afraid of the dark. Then next two nights they were so tired that they were out cold in minutes. Camped at Lambs Resort in Schroeder. Great place and great people. Decided to stay there to get away from the huge State Park crowds.
Took the boat out at Taconite Harbor on Wednesday. There was a strong north wind at about 15-20 but the hill kept the waves to less than a foot. Made controlling the boat a little challenging but not too bad. Found about 40 degree surface temps pretty much all day. Never wandered out far to find warmer water because of the wind so we trolled the shoreline in 60-200’. Trolled about 5-6 hours and went 2/3 with two nice kings. One came 70’ down on a n3 57 Chevy and the other came on the surface on an orange x-rap. Missed one early in the day that I figured was a smallish lake trout.
Nice to get out finally and catch a few nice fish. Should be seeing some better laker fishing near shore in the next few weeks as they ramp up for spawn. Caught some really nice lakers last fall through the end of the season in the Two Harbors area.
