Scheel's house brand rods, or other recommendations.

Hey folks. Looking for opinions on Scheel’s brand rods, or recommend a good sub-$100 all purpose casting rod used primarily for casting and some trolling. Lake trout, walleye, pike, bass in that order.

I’ve had good luck with a couple of older Cabela’s house brand rods but don’t trust them anymore. I do prefer to buy in-person so Scheel’s is on my short list.

This will be paired with a Tatula if that matters.

Hard to beat the Fenwick HMG series for the money.

Scheels rods are pretty good for there price point only thing I have found is they change out and drop rods on a whim. Purchased 2 10 foot trolling rods. Well the tip got broke on one they were good at replacing it but did not have the same rod in the same action, so now I have mix matched rods. The action on the replacement was not any where near as good as the original…..Just my two cents. Overall I give them a thumbs up for service and quality..

    X2

X3. I have about 3 or 4 with different sizes/heaviness and they are my main fishing rods

I have quite a few Scheel’s rods and they’re hard to beat in my experience.

I have many scheels rods (mostly for the kids) and they are fine for the money but the main reason I bought them was because of their lifetime warranty for all rods regardless of price. Now they only have a 3 year warranty. I have had to use the warranty for one and they didn’t have the rod in stock so they credited me the price and I bought a fenwick HMG which have a lifetime warranty and are great rods which I highly recommend for the price.

I have several Scheels rods and have had good luck with them. Main selling point for me was spring sale prices and lifetime no questions asked over the counter warranty. I believe the warranty is now only 5 years over the counter but still a fair price when they go on sale. Tip broke on one of the several I own and they just told me to grab a new on off the shelf. I have a couple of the highest end spinning rods they offer and think they are on par with almost anything else in the price range if not better.

Too many people abused the lifetime warranty policy and Scheel’s had to change it. I can’t say I blame them.

Scheel’s rods are solid, I’m not a big fan of their carbon fiber blanks tho. Personally I’ve upgraded to St. Croix Premier’s which can be found around that $100 mark, and I like them a lot better. If you watch classifieds you can usually find some gems at a discount if you don’t mind used rods.

If you watch for their sales you can get there higher end rods for a good price. Last year I got there one nano for around $130, normally over $200. They run good sales on occasion.

Scheels has awesome rods. That’s about all I use now. For the price they can’t be beat, and being local makes it even better. I’ve replaced 5 or 6 now that have broken over the years with no questions asked.
