We’ve got a pair of I8’s that have lasted 4 years and are still running strong. I’ve got mine in a shock case with a good screen cover because things seem to happen to my phones and thus far the cover has done a great job. Battery life for mine is greater than a week between charges but then I don’t live on the thing. I’m not techie so learning this phone was a cruel joke but now I can get around in it and like the safety it offers.

    I like my androids.

    First one lasted 7 years.
Going on year 3 with my 2nd.

My phones will never sit in the heat or direct sun, and never exposed to cold… want your battery to last that’s how. Don’t run them dead.

Kids don’t play with them. Never broken a screen either.

I always have paid good money for their top of line models and with good TLC have gotten what I paid for.

Couldn’t pay me to use an apple

question for android users…after installing an app, can you customize the features of said app? Like deactivate the camera, shut off location services, disable mic? When I had my old samsung, I had to agree to the terms of the app that gave it access to my GPS, mic, photos, etc and I couldn’t turn those things off. My I phone allows me to manage that stuff…just curious if that’s changed.

Additional big pluses for Motorola phones.

    No uninstallable apps and bloatware.

You can add a micro SD card to expand storage You can also direct all camera photos and videos to the sd card automatically to keep main memory free.

It gets more granular with each version, in Android 10 you can control each individual permission. The first run it will pop them all up to allow/deny and then, afterwards, in the settings you can go to the app and see each permission that was allowed and denied and change them if you want. You can also see a list of all apps that have a particular permission.

I really like that they added the option for using the GPS only when the app is running. For most of my apps I don’t need them to be polling the GPS in the background.

I have Apple products across the board; phone, tablet, laptop, and desktop. I’ve had Samsung and Dell over the years. No regrets in switching to all Apple. They hold up better and the user experience is better too. Safari is a top-notch browser.

I had an iPhone 5s that worked great for 6 years. The battery finally got to the point I needed to charge a few times each day.
So I ended up buying the new iPhone SE for $399 a few months ago and it’s been fantastic and the price was a plus. Highly recommend it.

Apple got me as a customer for life the day after I jumped into a pool with my second Iphone. I went in to the Apple store with my phone that I had for 3 weeks that would turn on but only if on a charger. I was honest and said I forgot my phone was in my pocket and jumped into a pool, I just want to see if it can be saved or not. Fully expecting to have to go back to my old blackberry, the manager comes out with my phone and says, yep, battery is fried. I said thank you and was turning around to leave and he said, “We’d like to replace your phone for you” to which I said thank you, but I don’t have the money to buy a new one right now. The manager says, “no no, it’s on us. You were honest about the situation from the second you walked in here and we appreciated that. You have no idea how many people try to pull one over on us in situations like yours.”

He handed me a brand new replacement and all I had to do was sign for it. I walked out of that store with my jaw on the floor. Apple customer for life after that. Love my iphones just wish the cameras were a little better.

Ive had three iPhones over 10-12 years and I’ve yet to break a screen. I do add the glass screen protectors and use a case. Three weeks ago I dropped it in gravel, got a couple fine spider cracks in the glass protector….I’ll replace that at some point.

Not sure if the pixel is considered “android” but that would be one phone I’d get other then the Apple.

It’s the most Android android, it’s made by Google without another manufacturer adding their modifications.

I’m by far the most non-phone-techy person but I thought Google pixel used a different system the android??? I juts know my wifes google pixel is waaaaay better then any other android we’d had owned.

Android is open-source meaning nobody “owns” it but it’s mostly driven by Google. Any manufacturer who uses Android as the base can modify it however they want which is why they are all different even though it’s Android under the hood. What I said maybe isn’t exactly accurate because the Pixel has Google specific modifications just like Samsung or any other manufacturer has their own modifications.

Because Android is open architecture, they are 50 times more likely to get malware or viruses.

There is a reason most companies use iPhone over Android, and most actually ban Android from connecting to the business. The reason is Security.

But with open architecture, comes more freedom as well.

For personal user, security may not be as important, but one malware or virus attack may change your mind.

I still have an old windows phone. I am not talking about the OS for smartphones. I think it runs windows mobile and is technically called a pocket of. I have the charger too, last time I checked it still worked

It helps to buy flagship android phones, not budget.

i have a pixel 3 and my wife the newer iphone 11. I think both phones are great. I had an iphone 3g as my 2nd smart phone and moved up the iphone ladder to about 6 I think and then eventually bought an S7 and now am on the pixel. I love the pixels. battery life on it for the past 2 year has been great. the camera is great. no complaints here.

But my wifes iphone is also pretty sweet.

I think the iphone itunes/backup system is one of the stupidest boondoggles of a back up system but if you can somehow avoid it, you are golden.

Switched from a Moto X 2nd generation 2 years ago to an Iphone8. Have hand no issues. Like that Apple continues to do updates. I’m very happy with the Iphone. My wife and I tend to keep our phone for a long time.

My wife went from Moto X 1st generation….to the Iphone10, didn’t like it and went for Moto Z3. She swears by the Moto products.

Your last line mentioned not being light on your phone.

That might be some of the reason they aren’t lasting long for you. Historically my phones always last me quite a while but I don’t work in an environment that’s hard on them and I also treat them as nicely as any expensive electronics I have on my boat or ice shack. I cringe when I see people dropping their phone on a table like it’s a $1 candy bar.

Anyway, my last phone was an Android Galaxy S7. It made it about 3 or 4 years until I dropped it in a hot tub. That took care of it immediately. Couldn’t get it to dry out and work again. I did replace the battery just before I dunked it. Had no issues with the phone until that mistake though and it treated me well.

I have a Galaxy S10e now and like it. The camera quality is excellent. Still surprises me how good the pictures are.

I also haven’t had the cold weather battery issues with my phones either. Have you had your phones in good cases? I treat mine well but have dropped them a time or two with no apparent issues… but overall just a couple drops over the life of the phone.

Good luck. These things ain’t cheap!

Good point. I’m not light on them IMO but I haven’t broken one yet or cracked a screen so there’s that I guess.

We’ll see how the Google holds up

Apple makes it easy and just forces you to give away all your data if you want the phone to work. But I do concede that open architecture requires a bit more maintenance. Malware and viruses are easily prevented by being an astute user, security is a mindset and posture.

Ive had a Sansung S7 Android for since they came out. At least 4 years. Still waterproof/resistent and going strong. Battery life is still decent too. No problems with operating speed or anything.

I’ve had Iphones since gen 1 came out. I have yet to break a screen. The older ones had lousy battery life, but the new ones are great on battery. I also like the fact that Apple doesn’t preload their phones with a ton of bloatware that you can’t remove. Apple phones also have better security if that makes any difference. The cameras and operating systems on all high end phones are amazing compared to years past. The thing I like the best about Iphone is that it is so much easier to navigate then an Andriod. Swipe up slightly to show all active windows, swipe up again to close them.

Good thing my Samsungs are waterproof… I brought my to Wis Dells in the pool for 3 days. Great pictures of the kids.

Of course the bad part is I had to take pics all weekend while the Apple users in my family sat back and waited for me to send them pictures😉

My wife and I have the Moto Z and have never had a issue. Still work great. I think the phones we have now are about 3 years old. We get them at Costco for under $200. I think the new ones are $189. At Costco.
