Say no to the iPhone

Need some reinforcement, my current Android Moto is couple years and some change old now, which of course means it’s breaking down. Every Android, every couple years, poops out. Sick of it, want some longevity.

Most iPhone folks seem to get at least a few years out of theirs, but then you deal with the fragile screen, overheating in summer and dying in winter (boat/ice).

What’s a guy to do? Stay loyal to an Android? Go to dark side of Apple (ugh). Really didn’t enjoy this last phone at all so not to happy with it I’m general.

What other phones you trade guys have around here? I’m not light on my phone.

Was always an android guy. Used to have the max or something. Battery life was good. I had to switch to I phone for work and hated the change. Used to the phone now. Get an otter case I have never broken a screen in 4 years. It stays in my pocket for the most part however.

I was also reluctant to switch to an iPhone. Now after getting used to it I won’t go back to an Android . As far as toughness we have three 18 yr olds, 2 of them boys. We have only had 2 cracked screens in 7 yrs. a good protective / cover or case helps.

Previous android guy here. Switch to Apple 3-4 years ago and also won’t go back…I’ve had only one apple and never had a broken screen and it’s been dropped a ton but gave it an otter case. It does have a sensitive battery in the winter but not sure that’s Apple specific. The cloud storage also sucks on apply but of course, you can always buy more! Luckily google photos work on the Apple and that has endless cloud storage. I also don’t like that Apple system upgrades slowly force you from your phone but you can always stop updating.

If you are against Apple, considered the google pixel. Wife has it and it seems pretty good. Not sure if the pixel is considered “android” but that would be one phone I’d get other then the Apple.

    Samsung.
I’m on my third Galaxy and never had an issue. This is an S8+ that’s three years old and the only issue is a bit of a decrease in battery life.

I’ve had iPhones for work and just can’t do Apple.

I used to try to get by with the cheaper android phones…finally bit the bullet several hrs ago and got the latest version Samsung (s8+). World of difference in the Samsung product. 3yrs later and it still performs like it did when new other than battery life. Waaaay more durable than an iphone. I’ve tried Apple in the past and just couldn’t get used to it. If you don’t want to learn an entirely new language I suggest one of the recent generation Samsungs….and not the economy versions that are out there.

After having a iPhone I’ll never go back to android. I’ve had iPhones for 10+ years now and have never broke a screen yet (knock on wood) get a decent case and a screen protector and you should be good

It’s the most Android android, it’s made by Google without another manufacturer adding their modifications.

Personally I wouldn’t switch. I think some people don’t make straight comparisons. All iPhones are “premium” phones but a lot of android phones are cheap junk. If you get a Samsung (for example) flagship phone it’s very good quality but also costs just as much as an iPhone. I have an S9+ that’s 2 years old now and it works the same as when I got it. I wash it under running water if it gets dirty. I’ve never used more than a thin rubber case (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078BJQMPG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_DyUjFbE15HD1E) and have never used a screen protector and the screen is fine.

Good stuff so far fellas, much appreciated.

I’ve had 3 different Moto’s, this last one was awful.

Samsung was on my to-look at list.

I’ve had Samsung, apple, and android mobiles. I recently went back to an apple because they introduced a smaller version that fits better in my pocket. The battery life seems to wear out way before I would like to replace it. Can’t comment on the durability of these models as I’ve never experienced a cracked screen. Seems like a good case would provide some cheap insurance for those with fumbling butter fingers.

I’m sure. Perhaps it’s also a result of the user too and not solely the phone’s lack of durability. Just sayin’

    Which Moto did you have?

I have a G7 Power and it is awesome. Had it since last summer.

Battery lasts for 2-3 days. Even playing music I can let the phone play for 8 hours. Survived a fall from a deer stand. Supercharger feature is awesome.

For the price of one current gen iPhone, you can get 3-4 of a similar spec Moto. I paid under $200 out the door for a 64 gig G7 unlocked no carrier commitments.

Even if I had to replace this phone every year, it’s still a no brainier based on $ paid for the performance. If it lasts 2 years, how much better can it get? Great phone for 100 bucks a year.

Buy a good case and screen protector.

I’ve owned both and wouldn’t go back to an apple. Last 3 phones have been Samsung S series. Currently have an S10. Only issue ive noticed is the batter life fades with time.

Luckily the company pays for my phone so if I break it a new one is free.

My wife just replaced her Samsung. It was 8 years old. In my experience Samsung’s last as long as you want them to last. Me personally I like to upgrade every 3-4 years.

It’s just a Ford versus Chevy thing for me but I’ll never own an iPhone.

Moto guy. Ever since first Droid. Been on a Moto Z2 for 2 years. No issues. No plans on going to the dark side. Had a pixel that had issues, probably a 1 of. Traded back to a Moto after 5 days.

Agree – it’s a Ford vs Chevy thing. I had the Samsung Galaxy phones for years and never had any issues. Loved the battery life.

Switched to apple because my employer paid for the phone. Thought I would hate it but after getting used to it it’s just fine. The Samsung’s and Apples are very comparable imho.

The deciding factor to stay with Apple is because my wife had one, we have an ipad, etc. Having all the same devices makes life a bit easier.

The battery on Iphone 10 is really good….I know that used to be a knock on the older apple phones.

I was very anti-iPhone before giving them a try after my 3rd Samsung S6 Died under 2 years and love iPhone now. I had my wife’s hand me down iPhone 6S for 4 years until it was just too slow and I got a new SE that was “only” like $400. iPhones are nice too if a lot of friends/family have them too for airdrop and some text compatibility issues.

Armed with the Intel here I went forward on to best buy. Salesguy seemed to know his stuff, I did look at that SE and just couldn’t come to terms with an apple quite yet.

Got a pixel 3 for reasons stated above among others. We’ll see how it pans out in 2 yrs time I guess.

Except that Apple phones never have sd slots and rely too much on the cloud. If you do any off grid or poor reception stuff you can’t fit huge maps, music, or videos on an apple. Every time I buy a micro sd card the storage doubles and the price halves.

Apple also has less apps and rigs the phones so that some of your apps stop working as they update and your phone is deemed too old by apple.

I had 2 iphones then samsung and LG. I would never go back to apple.

As a few others have mentioned, the Moto G7 Power battery life is great. I recharge every 3 days. Also, the price can’t be beat.

Edit: G7 Power model, not the regular G7

I had Samsung as my last phone. I can’t stand how Samsung and other device manufacturers put home screens and apps that you can’t get rid of. I got a pixel 3 back when they had big discounts on them and I like it.

You can install different launchers which is the home screen/interface. I use Nova Launcher on mine. There are apps that can’t be uninstalled though.
