I have decided to pull the trigger this year and upgrade my slug gun to the Savage 220F, anyone here own one of these? Looking for suggestions on what scope I should go with and why.

Cant help you with the Savage review but I have a Nikon BDC on my Beretta 390 slug gun, love it. This weekend i received an email with them on sale at Cabelas now for $99. Normally $230 ish…
July 13, 2015 at 10:05 am #1554418I’ve been looking at these as well Steve. If I do decide to buy one I was going to consider a 1.25 x 4 power Leupold in the Firedot series.
I currently have a red dot on my 870 slug gun and I absolutely love being able to keep both eyes open and follow an object through the brush. Not sure if a magnified red dot scope would provide the same concept but if anyone has any experience with these scopes, I would love to hear about it.
July 13, 2015 at 10:15 am #1554426I’ve had that gun for about 4 years now. I have a Nikon Prostaff scope on it. (I can get the power and specs off it tonight)
The gun is amazing! 150 yards with the right scope and ammo.July 13, 2015 at 10:16 am #1554427There is a specific scope mount you will want to prevent shell ejection issues. I can check on that tonight too.

I also have an 870 and had a TruGlo red dot scope on it as well and yes I love the red dot for the same reason, being able to keep both eyes open while looking through the scope until it went to pot on me last year just before the season started, that is why I am thinking about going with a more traditional scope.
Here is a good article on the Savage 220F The author installed a new Nikon 3-9X 40mm SlugHunter scope with its BDC 200 reticle keyed specifically for sabot slugs using a Warne Picatinny base and Warne rings.

July 13, 2015 at 3:55 pm #1554556Nikon prostaff slug scope is a great scope for the price!!! I’ve had mine for a few years now and I’ve never had a issue with it!!!
July 13, 2015 at 4:56 pm #1554567I put a Cabelas slug scope on my 20g Ultra Slug Hunter and I can make clover-leaves on paper at 100yards without issue.
July 13, 2015 at 5:05 pm #1554569Not related to the scope question at hand, but wanted to say that the Accutrigger is just fantastic. Initially, I didn’t think I would like the Accutrigger when it first came out about 10 years ago. Ha! That was only because I had yet to try it!
It’s fantastic that Savage has put that trigger on a slug gun. Yes, it takes some getting used to, and yes, with gloves you need to be as deliberate as you would in using any rifle with a 3.x pound trigger pull.
But the results cannot be denied. There were very few stock triggers 20 years ago that are as good as the Accutrigger is now, and those triggers came on MUCH more expensive guns.
Post a range report when you get her dialed in.

July 13, 2015 at 5:38 pm #1554576Just wondering, can you use a magnifying scope on a shotgun down in Southern Mn ? Or do you use them in the rifle zones ?

Yes you can use a magnifying scope in southern MN I know several guys who do.
July 14, 2015 at 5:23 am #1554619I am one of those guys, hunt near Winona with my aforementioned 390 slug gun and BDC, Groups with sabot slugs are fantastic and pie plate hits at 180 yds consistently from a bench.
could have tried further out but the range was limited.July 14, 2015 at 9:39 am #1554656The 220 can hit awesome groups at 200 yards. Federal stopped making the best sabot I ever shot, but I switched to partition golds and they are almost as good.
I ran out of time last night, so I didn’t get to check on the scope I had on mine, but here is the rail I installed.
