Saugeye or sauger ?

    Fished lake pepin this weekend got one nice sauger ,i actually think it was a saugeye but not sure how to tell the difference it was almost 18″ just a pig lots of spots on dorsal fin and very light color skin

    Doesn’t a saugeye have the white tip on tail?

    It did have a little piece of white like a eye but everything else about it looked mostly like a sauger except was bigger then most cigar sized sauger i catch

    Probably still a sauger. Sauger will have a hint of white on the tail too.

    18″ Saugers on pool 4 in winter are usually 2 to 2.5 pound fish. They’re just big fish up there.
