Sounds like you should try a variety of recipes to really dial it in, and therefore need samplers EPG, dibs!
We like this recipe that I found on Dirty Gourmet. I’ve substituted store-bought juice over fresh-squeezed in a pinch, too. You could make it in a pitcher, but we’ve done it in pint jars and tossed them in a cooler.
Rose Sangria in Jars
INGREDIENTS
1 bottle rosé wine
1/4 cup tequila
1/4 cup sugar
juice of 2 grapefruits
juice of 4 oranges
1 cup of grapes, halved
1 peach
1 cup raspberries
In a large pitcher, combine the Rose, tequila, sugar, grapefruit and orange juice. Stir to combine.
Divide the fruit between the jars and then add the Rose mixture. You can fill the jars 1/2 -3/4 full, depending on how much ice you’d like to add. Cover the jars with the lids and screw on the rings to close. Keep the sangria cold in your cooler and make sure to bring extra ice.
Thanks Ralphy,
I know what I’m going to be sipping on this week end while sitting on the dock.

How much store bought juice do you use as substitute?

I just use a white tequila. It’s not really for flavor–just to kick the proof up a little bit.

I’ll have to check my recipe at home to see if I wrote it down. I’ll get back to you.

I used 2 cups of grapefruit juice and 1 cup of orange juice. I recall that being a little heavy on the grapefruit for my taste, so you may want to reduce that a little, depending upon your tastes.
FYI – Dock will be open at 5:00 Friday night.
Over flow people will be given a noodle!

And a life jacket right BK
I’ve made up the same style of recipe as Ralph posted, but instead of Rose, we used sparkling moscato wine. I also went heavier on the tequila. All was good and refreshing.
Okay I’m thinking I’m going to try to make some sangria this weekend! @eelpoutguy, how did yours turn out?
Sharon,
I never got a chance to fire up a batch.
Let me know if you need a field tester this weekend.
I have never had Sangria with Tequila…. usually brandy.
What do you put in your Blue Hawaiian’s?
One of our neighbors gave us a bottle of brandy for shoveling his driveway in Feb, so I think I might use brandy in my recipe rather than tequila. We have tequila but I think it’s a bottle of Patron, so I’d rather save that for shots. I’m not sure which kind of wine I should use though. I might have to take a stroll through Total Wine this afternoon and see what jumps out at me.
If you can get to Trader Joe’s, I recommend Balatonboglari… it is a Hungarian Merlot and is great for Sangria and just to drink !
My wife / and her friends use brandy in there recipe , never seen then use tequila?
Okay it’s in the fridge! So I was googling the crap out of the millions of ways to make sangria, figuring maybe I should pick a different kind of wine if I’m using brandy vs. tequila, and it turns out the only consistent recipe recommendation is to use a wine that you’d drink by itself. So I settled on a red moscato!
We’ll see how it tastes tomorrow!
Really? Cool! So we got a good one here then, huh? I don’t know much about brandy.
All this Sangria talk is making me thirsty.
I made a batch this am with a Spanish Cab and Tequila. I have never had Sangria with tequila before, but really liked the different dimension it added.
I can see that this concoction will be added into the summer repertoire.
Thanks Ralph.
That looks good, Eelpoutguy! I just poured a glass of my sangria and it’s delicious! Of course my orange solo cup by the campfire isn’t as classy as your photo.
