Sand bar advice

I’m going out to a new spot this evening and I’m looking for walleyes.

I will be fishing a point/sand bar and this spot is know to have walleyes. The sand bar goes out to a point. Typically the sand bar runs 16′ to 18′ deep and it doesn’t really drop off on the sides until it gets to the point. No significant difference in depth or structure on either side of the drop off. Around the point it drops off quick to 35′. I’m not going to be able to punch a bunch of holes and be able to hole hop while fishing as I will be stationary. My question is…….For the evening bite do I set up in the deeper part that drops off or do I set up in the shallow part? My thinking is to set up shallow (18′) on the bar(point) before it drops off but if there are houses out there I want advice on which side I should try.

Sounds like Trailer Point. Both there and at Hok-Si-La beach the best bite as the shadows lengthen into darkness is on shallow water, like about 8 feet or so. If you have current I would also avoid fishing immediately off the point. Back away a few yards on the up stream side and look for shallower water than the depth you mention.
