Salty Kayak Fishing

I finally rented a kayak to do some backwater fishing. I’m no fan of kayak fishing, but at least I got to move around.

Long story short, it took me two years for my first sheephead, redfish and trout. The sheephead was a nice size.

I’d do it again, but I’d never buy a kayak. Just to confining and too much work.

The nice thing is the area is pretty much inaccessible to even flats boats with the oyster beds.

    What town? ;)

I wish o lived closer to the salt. The plan is to move to tentatively west Bradenton, on the gulf, south side of Tampa bay.

Pug- I’m assuming you’re heading west and fishing the gulf side… Am I wrong? If so, have you thought about trying upper Tampa bay park or around the sunshine skyway? Looks like you had a good time! Congrats!

West Bradenton is the gulf side. A lot has to fall into place for me to do that and that’s next fall.

I do want to try the skyway sometime. It looks pretty cool, sort of reminds me of the red dot spot, above Ford damn. Just pull up to your fishing spot and fish.

We do the same under the max Brewer bridge in Titusville.

But alas, I need a damn boat! The wife promised!

Yes, I’m wishy-washy. Deciding on take out for Friday nights here is a drawn out process.

I’d have to know what sort of activities you’d like to do before offering a suggestion. How far you willing to drive? Is the wife with you?

I don’t know much about the area you are in. We don’t go there.

Nice pics. Did my first saltwater trip last year and loved it. Those sheephead sure do fight. We caught a lot of Mangro Snappers which I thought were very good eating. Still looking for my first Redfish.

Good luck on your future trips.

Inshore Mango’s are like midwest perch. They can be very annoying…until you catch ones big enough to eat. laugh

We were in TX no size limit or bag limit there which seemed a little weird.

You like boobs and wings, we got a couple of different franchises. Twin peak, wing house, tilted kilt devil

Most Miller’s Ale houses have nice patios.

We don’t venture to the tourist part of town much. In two years we’ve been to universal, downtown Disney and sea world. So I’m not sure what is down that way, but I could give you a list on the Northside.

I’d suggest pulling up Google maps and finding a bar and grill by a body of water with a patio. Look at the photos. That’s what I do. I make sure it looks like old authentic Florida, weathered and cozy, but not a dump.
