Can anyone help me with some saltwater fishing techniques for snapper and mackerel? More so on the mackerel as there is a tourney down here in a couple months and I have never fished salt water except for a couple times when I was a little guy.
    thanks,
    Chris

I was going to say you’re still a little guy Chris…but that’s kinda hard to do to anyone that’s deployed.

I don’t know if anyone here has fished on the little island South of Florida, but fish should be fish I would think. Do you have any superdoo’s with you? )

This is surf fishing I’m guessing? Or will you be allowed to take out a destroyer?

we’ve got boats we can take out…very basic gear though no depth finder no trolling motor. Heck they’ve barely got rod holders.

I wish I had more gear down here, speaking of BK if you know of anyone that wants to donate some fishin stuff to deployed troops let me know. I’ve got a guide license down here so I can volunteer and am trying to get more people into the fishing sport, but the selection of gear is very limited.

Where are you at Chris? Im guessing somewhere in Florida? Might find some good info on floridasportsman.com. Little in shore fishing Ive done in florida we used dork rigs with shrimp or pin fish.

Mackeral have very sharp teeth that will cut through most line very easily. See the pic in my avatar. They can be caught on live shrimp below a popping cork or on very fast erratic moving shiny lures. They are often below schools of baitfish. Snapper are usually around structure like reefs. Live or cut bait free lined will catch them, chumming helps. Jigs with live bait, cut bait or plastic will catch most all species.
