    Guys and gals,

What is best use for minnows that don’t make it. Can you use all types rosie, shiner, sucker, etc…

How do you go about salting them and how long are they good after you salt.

Any tactics and recipes are appreciated.

I have a bunch in bucket still a week or so after they were alive is that too long now to use the water never froze. I kept them looking for ideas.

    Thanks ahead of time.

I am very interested in seeing what people have to say on this topic as well. i always get done with a fishing trip and look at whats left of a scoop of minnows and think “what a waste”. i bought some firebrine a while ago but have not used it. of course this does not cure the minnows as i understand it…

One of the secrets to salting minnows is to provide good drainage. I’d find an old wood-framed window screen that is still intact. Simply spread the minnows out on the screen and cover them with loose salt. After four hours or so stir them around and add more salt to keep them covered in it. A fan on low blowing air across the screen will hasten the process of drying. It can take three or four days to get the minnows to where you want them but keeping salt re-freshed daily helps speed things along. When they are as dry as you need them, bag them in ziplocks but keep them cool
