My buddy Mitch has been bugging me to go with him to a trout lake about an hour north of my home ever since we got home from Everts.
This former Iron Ore Mine lake has been stocked with Lake Trout, Splake and Rainbow for several years with a good carry over population of bigger fish.
No boats allowed so it is fairly tough fishing from shore… knowing Lakers and Splake are very active in late fall I got a wild idea that I could fool them pitching tiny blades…like 1/8 and 3/16 oz… I was right!
I cast the blade as far as possible, let it sink to the bottom and slowly “pumped” it back… on my forth cast something nearly tore the rod from my hand! Several bulldoging, deep boring runs later a 30″ Lake Trout succumed to my ES69MLXF and 6# Crystal Braid… we photoed/revived her and returned her to the pristine lake…shortly afterward the 13-15″ “frying pan” Rainbows also attacked those little blades to provide a nice meal.
Most guys were out in their deer blinds but we had a blast doing some old fashioned “shoreline” fishing.
BTW… the windchill was about -7 degrees but my Gamehide H2O fleece Parka and bibs kept me toasty!
