    Quick report –

Fished Saturday out of Racine. Slow overall, went 3 for 5. All fish came in the dark. 2 kings plus one nice coho.

All fish on lead, 8 color or 10 color, the 8 being the hotter setup. Magnum moonshine glow spoons caught all fish.

No hits on riggers or dipsys, all on core. 1.9 to 2.2 at the ball. Pretty good current most places. Some of the upwellings showed up on the graph. The ball would all of a sudden dip 7 degrees cooler, then come back up in temp in a matter of 100 yards. Looked like a horizontal to vertical sweeping thermocline on the screen. Pretty cool. Quite the temp variations in places. Most down temps were 50-55 degrees.

Awesome Mike. Glad you found a couple. We didn’t do nearly as well. Went 2 for 3 on the weekend. We were out of Racine as well Saturday morning. We put in right at dawn (0530).

All we managed was 1 small king right away on a Dipsy. One of our crew developed a case of sea sickness so that cut our morning trip short.

If there is one thing I’m empathetic to, it’s sea sickness.

Just out of curiosity, what depth were you guys targeting during the day & after dark?

We setup at about 70 and trolled out to maybe 100 (5:30 til about 8), then came back and had all hits in about 55-65 fow after dark. Tons of bait and marks, but we only picked them off here and there. Most hits did come as we pulled through big bait balls, though. Pretty good current going.

Overall slow, but at least we managed a few. Biggest was just shy of 13 lbs. One nice coho of almost 10 lbs.

Saturday evening we saw a big log rolling in the waves on the horizon… Shortly after seeing that, we heard a snippet of a conversation from a fishing boat hailing the shore / water patrol saying that they found something, but we didn’t catch the whole conversation. A few minutes after that, the coastie boat came flying out, headed for where we saw the “log”…

Any accidents last week in Racine? Any missing boats they were looking for? Just curious…

I didn’t hear of any incidents but who knows.

As far as the salmon bite goes, you’re trip sounds a lot like what I’ve heard from quite a few others out in Racine or Milwaukee this past weekend. I’m planning on getting over to Milwaukee this coming Saturday. Hopefully, the bite will pick up a bit by then.

Not sure what you saw Mike. I did hear a fair bit of radio chatter that I thought was recreational divers. However it seemed they were really interested in one particular spot. Maybe they weren’t recreational diving.

Ya, I’ll be back down there out of PW in a few weeks, I’m hoping the bite picks up by then…

My theory is we will be fishing around then new moon, which should make the dusk/dawn bites that much better (vs moonlight allowing them to feed all night…)

If nothing else, at least it gives me a little hope to go on.
